Description:

Communication and relationship skills Communication with and exchanging information with a wide and varied group of staff. The communication may be confidential in nature Excellent written and verbal communication skills with all members of staff. Demonstrates ability to motivate staff and students and encourage learning. Ensure that patients and relatives are kept informed as appropriate.
To liaise efficiently and effectively with other professionals including outside agencies, to ensure smooth and safe running of service Be aware of complex needs of differing client groups and works with them in a sensitive manner to provide information and advice. Demonstrates empowering, motivational, negotiating, empathetic and reassurance skills Analytical and judgment skills Ensure that work is delegated according to the skill and knowledge of the nursing team providing teaching, coaching and mentorship as required. Analyse and act upon patient data. This may be observed or reported.
Liaison with other health care professionals will be required to ensure the appropriate and timely ongoing patient management Strong leadership qualities Ability to deal effectively with challenging situations. To make operational judgements Has the ability to identify and solve complex problems, analyse, compare and interpret information before reaching a judgement and making a decision Planning and organisational skills Experience in staff management Able to lead & motivate a team of Nursing staff. Ensure that patients and staff have adequate resources to meet the needs of the service. This may mean escalating concerns / problems to senior managers in a timely way.
Be adaptable to changing circumstances within the ward / department. Demonstrate the ability to assess and reassess the needs of patients and delegate staff to meet those needs in a timely and cost effective manner. Frequently required to make complex decisions and judgements To ensure that senior nurses / managers are updated as appropriate. Utilise the skills of the support services available as appropriate in the delivery of care / service.
This includes liaising with allied health professionals, discharge staff, clerical staff, housekeeping, portering and cleaning staff as appropriate. To be aware of the ongoing service needs and ensure that pre emptive planning is undertaken to ensure service continuity and contingency planning keeping senior nurses / managers informed as appropriate. Physical skills Moving and handling of patients and equipment Keyboard and database skills Good organisational skills Communication skills with the ability to manage challenging and aggressive behaviour as well as caring for dying patients and their families
