Description:
FINANCIAL STABILITY AND RESEARCH DEPARTMENT
Bermuda Monetary Authority (Authority or BMA) is seeking the services of a skilled and capable individual to work as a Deputy Director – Chief Economist in our Financial Stability and Research Department. Reporting to the Director, the Deputy Director – Chief Economist will be responsible for leading all global and domestic economic analyses and advice related to BMA’s mandate.
APPLICANTS FOR THIS POSITION ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE A TECHNICAL AND BUSINESS BACKGROUND. THEREFORE, THE POST-HOLDER MUST HOLD:
- A master’s degree or equivalent qualification in economics or related discipline from a recognised institution or professional body. Candidates with a PhD will be given serious consideration.
- A minimum of twelve (12) years’ relevant experience, of which at least five (5) years should be at a senior level managing a team in the financial services industry and/or working experience with a financial services regulator and/or research institution
- Superior knowledge of both banking and international (re)insurers’ operations
- A publication record in high-quality peer-reviewed academic journals
- A demonstrated ability to synthesise, summarise and communicate information from a variety of sources, along with the ability to manage projects to completion in a timely manner
- Strong analytical skills and excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral)
- The ability to lead and provide training to various junior staff

Responsibilities:
- Overseeing BMA’s programme of work on international financial markets monitoring and analysis
- Overseeing BMA’s programme of work on systemic risk analysis and assessment related to Bermuda-based financial services sectors
- Leading the macroeconomic analysis of Bermuda’s economy
- Contributing to BMA’s horizon-scanning activities
- Translating economic and financial sector analysis into advice for BMA micro- and macro-prudential supervision, including issues related to Bermuda’s financial stability and macro-economic matters
- Leading the development of economic models, internal reports, and publications related to international and domestic economic and financial sector issues
- Performing other related work and special projects associated with the Financial Stability and Research Department’s remit as assigned
