Biological Services is an integral part of UCL’s biomedical research portfolio, providing expert services to researchers primarily within the Life and Medical Sciences Faculties. The department is composed of circa. 100 staff based across a number of UCL’s world leading research- and hospital partner sites in London.
A primary example is the Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Institute of Child Health, which form the largest paediatric centre in Europe dedicated to both clinical and basic scientific research, committed to carrying out pioneering research to find treatments and cures for some of the most complex illnesses, for the benefit of children here in the UK and worldwide.

ABOUT YOU

To do this job you’ll need the following:

  • Must hold a current Procedural Individual Licence (PIL), also known as a personal licence, with extensive knowledge of procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 and EU Directive
  • A good understanding of the control and management of disease transfer and biosecurity

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

The post holder will join UCL’s Biological Services as a Deputy Facility Manager at either the Institute of Child Health or a multidisciplinary facility supporting cutting-edge research in the heart of the Bloomsbury campus. This Deputy Facility Manager is responsible for the everyday organisation of the work of the animal facilities under the management of the Facility Hub Manager. They will be responsible for the line management of staff including allocation of work, managing rotas and motivation. They will also maintain effective communication between technologists and academic staff.
