JOB PURPOSE

Working closely with the College Head of Finance to lead on the development, leadership, and delivery of the College Finance Reporting Team. To ensure the strategic, operational management and development of the service delivery is implemented effectively and efficiently across the College. Together with providing effective leadership, management to all College leaders and Finance Reporting team members giving professional advice and guidance as required.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide leadership and management to the Finance Reporting Team; building strong working relationships with business partners and overseeing detailed business plans and programmes of work to ensure College leaders are keeping in line with the strategic priorities. Delegate planned activities across the team considering deadlines and conflicting work pressures.
  2. To lead on establishing and embedding quality and performance standards within the team to develop and improve the capability of individuals in order to achieve an effective, efficient, and consistent financial management reporting service. Promote a continuous improvement approach, delivering a culture of ownership and accountability to enhance the service delivery, financial awareness and governance.
  3. Working closely with the Head of College, Deputy Head of College, College Head of Professional Services and College Head of Finance to provide expert analysis to support decision making and development of College strategy. This will include sourcing, analysing and evaluating financial information from across the College / University, using insight and expertise to draw conclusions and make recommendations. Present findings and recommendations to inform and support strategic decision making at College Management Group, College Executive Group and to external stakeholders.
  4. Provide high-level expertise and knowledge related to the co-ordination of all month-end activity and balance sheet reconciliations across the College to ensure that financial results and forecast are accurately recorded. Responsible for creating monthly information for review with the Head of Finance, in preparation for the College Management Group.
  5. To led on the evaluation of existing procedures and practices for all financial reporting to ensure robust systems are in place and are compliant. To continually review and implement changes required with ongoing monitoring and audit compliance.
  6. Working closely with Heads of School and Heads of Professional Services to shape and lead on the College Finance Business Partner function to ensure a high quality and value added finance support team. Develop and maintain robust financial reporting and leverage to provide sound business and financial management information to senior leadership including identifying strategic action plans to ensure return on investment. Identify and proactively mitigate the major strategic financial risks relating.
  7. Working closely with the College Finance Operations Manager lead on the support and management of the College Transaction Hub team to ensure the finance operations team are operating efficiently and achieving KPI targets whilst ensuring a culture of continuous improvement is maintained. Ensure up to date process notes are maintained and there are no single points of failure.
  8. To proactively participate in activities that support the University-wide finance community to make sure policies and procedures are being consistently applied to support transactional delivery, and all financial controls are being met.
  9. Deputise for College Head of Finance where relevant and undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required.
