Description:

The role is in line with duties and responsibilities as given in the UCL Academic Manual https://www.ucl.ac.uk/academic-manual/sites/academicmanual/files/chapter12dutiesandresponsibilities2023-24.pdf. Specifically, in relation to MSc Ophthalmology, the Deputy Programme Lead will support the Programme Lead and be responsible for: Education Leadership Ensuring that the programme is academically coherent and that it remains informed by research developments and other initiatives including QAA Subject Benchmark Statements; Providing leadership for the team of staff who contribute modules and teaching for the core and optional elements of the programme Ensuring that the programme is responsive to market need and that appropriate actions are taken in response to all stakeholders Ensuring that the modules which form core and optional elements of the programme are coherent and appropriate for achievement of the programme learning outcomes Keeping up to date with learning and teaching developments and being alert to best practice (through UCL Arena, subject associations, conferences, professional events and journals) Ensuring that the programme reflects the dimensions of the Connected Curriculum and research-based education can be evidenced across the programme Undertaking review of the programme in accordance with UCL regulations and policy Ensuring that student evaluation of modules and programmes is managed effectively and used to enhance provision for current and/or future cohorts. Regular attendance at Programme Leads meetings Assessment and Feedback Ensuring that the intended learning outcomes, at all levels, are clear and appropriate for the level of the qualification Ensuring that assessment criteria and marking schemes on all modules are clear and explicitly communicated to and explored with students Ensuring that the overall assessment requirements at the module and programme level satisfy UCL regulations contained in the Academic Manual Ensuring that assessments are planned across the programme so that there is a diversity of assessment methods and clustering is avoided Student Engagement and Performance Play a key role as an admissions tutor for the programme, reviewing applications on a minimum weekly basis as well as working closely with the marketing team to promote the programme through Open Days and marketing campaigns Monitoring of student performance on the programme Meeting with the relevant staff to oversee analysis and response to feedback including student feedback and examiners reports Developing student engagement in order to enrich their academic and personal experience Other Attending student, departmental and other promotional events/open days as required Attending role-related meetings, briefings, workshops, training, exhibitions and conferences at UCL / the Department or externally, as required Providing cover for the Programme Lead when on leave Ensuring adherence to UCLs GDPR policy and retention schedules in relation to student data Actively following, implementing and promoting UCL policies, including Equal Opportunities Maintaining and awareness and observation of fire and health and safety regulations Carrying out any other duties commensurate with the grade and purpose of the role, as directed by the line manage
