Description:

Practice in accordance with the NMC code of professional conduct for nurses, midwives and health visitors. Role model highly skilled practice and interpersonal skills in the planning, delivery and provision, evaluation and supervision of care for critically ill patients and significant others. Promote teamwork and ensure harmonious working relationships are maintained with all disciplines involved in providing patient care. Support when needed the clinical teams to respond to complaints and concerns as part of the Complaints handling process.
Be a pro-active leader within the department and wider Trust, initiating, undertaking and supervising practice development projects, innovation and ongoing development of staff. Act as the patients advocate, communicate and actively contribute to/lead multidisciplinary decision making regarding patient care. To work at all times in a professional manner with regard to legislation and policies. Appropriately report any act or omission that adversely affects care.
Proactively manage clinical risk for patients by reviewing completion of physiological observations, fluid balance charts and medication charts Be responsible for establishing effective communication with patients, carers and the whole team. Using excellent influencing and negotiating skills, manage and resolve conflict where it may arise with differing opinions on patient care / management. Be proactive in the identification of personal developmental and learning needs. To be self-directed in seeking out and using resources to meet such needs.
Work closely with the practice development team to deliver support, training and education for specified initiatives to staff. Ensure that any clinical concerns are reported via the trust adverse event reporting system and are escalated as per relevant escalation policies. Ensure compliance with the Trusts Health and Safety and Risk Management Policies and procedures; establish and maintain safe systems of work within the department. You have a duty to maintain the health, safety and welfare of staff, patients or other third parties visiting your department or general areas of the Trust.
Contribute to establishing and maintaining evidence based practices through own learning and professional updating. Effectively manage own workload within the time and resources available. To undertake recruitment and manage staff retention issues. With support from Band 7 sister/charge nurse manage sickness absence, performance, discipline and grievance in line with Trust Policy as required.
Undertake appraisal / Joint Review and Development (JRD) for staff with support from Band 7 sister/charge nurse
