Are you ready to shape the future of renewable energy? We are a successful global group operating in Australia, the UK, and the US, specializing in trading and supplying renewable power to business consumers. Our “Global Trading Hub Strategy” leverages the UK’s strong trading capabilities to expand into new markets.
To drive this strategy, we’re forming a new Strategy & Business Development Group, led by the Vice President of Strategy & Business Development. We are seeking a Deputy Vice President of Business Development to join this group and spearhead our expansion in Europe and globally by acquiring appropriately dimensioned downstream retail businesses.

WHAT SKILLS/EXPERIENCE DO I NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL?

  • An experienced leader in a commodity trading environment with a proven track record operating in or leading business functions within energy retail businesses;
  • Experience of working at a senior level with strong written and verbal communication skills and the gravitas to build consensus in a consensus decision making culture;
  • A proven track record of delivering successful strategic acquisitions and business development outcomes and working with global entities;
  • Proven experience of and the ability to work at a senior level in a commodity trading company;
  • Extensive and current knowledge of traded electricity and gas markets.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsibility for the UK company’s acquisition and business development activities in line with the Company’s development strategy into Europe, business plan and budgets;
  • Create and maintain a robust target country entry listing and an understanding of how to extract value in target markets through an in-depth understanding of each of the European energy markets and their specific mechanics, scope to be extended to broader US States or Asia PAC countries where required;
  • Create and maintain a fully vetted and appropriate schedule of target companies that fulfill the needs of the forecasted growth program by offering the best fit in meeting Smartest Energy groups objectives for value delivery;
  • Work with both internal and external stakeholders (and service providing parties) to run strong and aligned transaction processes engaging with all appropriate members of the cross functional stakeholder group, seeking input and support to gain an aligned investment decision;
  • Working closely with the Finance Business Partner to ensure the executed Business Development activities comply with the annual financial reporting and transaction approval processes;
  • Working closely with the Human Resources business partner to ensure that any staff seconded or reporting directly to the team are engaged and competitively remunerated with a dynamic training, development and succession plan in accordance with the Group’s Strategic Workforce Plan;
  • Support the VP Strategy and Business Development wider organisational objectives as and when agreed.
