Northpower is an electricity and fibre network provider for Whangārei and Kaipara, with more than 60,000 connected customers.
Northpower is one of the largest multi-utility contractors in New Zealand, servicing the needs of clients in transmission, distribution, generation, fibre, renewables, and commercial sectors. Responsibilities:

THE ROLE

As the Design and Engineering Manager, you will be at the heart of our operations, guiding the design and engineering processes from concept through to completion. This role involves working alongside senior managers to oversee project viability studies, procurement, construction, and the eventual handover to operations. You will be instrumental in developing and implementing consistent approaches across the project lifecycle, ensuring best practices and continual improvement. You’ll also:

  • Coordinate all facets of project design and engineering, ensuring smooth transitions from early-stage studies to final handover.
  • Develop and implement best practice engineering processes across all project stages.
  • Guide and influence team members and stakeholders to uphold high standards and consistency.
  • Work on transformative renewable energy projects that contribute to a sustainable future.
  • Manage the project lifecycle with a focus on delivering quality and efficiency.

Ideally you’ll have proven experience in a similar role with a solid understanding of design, pricing, and job management fundamentals. You’ll also have:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics.
  • Hands-on experience with solar energy projects, particularly those scaled over 500kWp preferred
  • Excellent spoken and written English skills.
  • Proficient in computer use and confident in decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with stakeholders to drive project success.
  • Strong experience in team management and coaching, with a focus on achieving higher standards
