The Role
Job Summary: We are seeking a Design and Estimation Manager to lead and manage design and estimation activities for a renowned company in the steel fabrication industry. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in structural engineering, a deep understanding of design strategy, and a proven track record in team leadership and project management. The role requires a hands-on approach to managing design concepts, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and driving the overall design and estimation strategy to meet project goals. Key Responsibilities: 1. Team Leadership: • Lead and mentor a team of designers, including architects, structural engineers, and steel/aluminum detailers. Foster a creative and collaborative work environment, encouraging the team to generate innovative ideas and solutions. 2. Project Management: • Plan, organize, and prioritize design projects to ensure timely delivery and adherence to budget constraints. Collaborate with engineering, project management, and production teams to ensure the successful execution of design and estimation projects. 3. Design Strategy: • Develop and implement design strategies that align with the company’s business goals and branding objectives. Stay up-to-date with industry trends, innovations, and competitors’ design initiatives to maintain a competitive edge. 4. Concept Development: • Work closely with the design team to conceptualize and create design concepts, sketches, and prototypes. Review and approve design proposals, presentations, and ensure quality control across all design outputs. 5. Structural Design & Estimation: • Perform structural analysis and design for steel and transportation structures, including new construction and rehabilitation projects. Prepare technical reports, design calculations, and detailed estimation documents. • Engage with clients, subconsultants, and partners during design meetings, site inspections, and project discussions. 6. Documentation and Compliance: • Prepare construction drawings, technical specifications, and estimation reports. • Ensure all project designs and documentation comply with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience as a Structural Engineer in a fabrication environment. • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (Master’s degree in Structural Engineering is preferred). • Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, RAM Structural System, and Microsoft Office Suite. • Experience with Risa 2D, Risa 3D, and SAP 2000 (ETABS experience is preferred but not required). • Solid experience in the structural analysis and design of steel and other structures. • Strong understanding of fabrication and erection activities. • Proven experience in preparing design reports, drawings, and specifications. • S.E. (Structural Engineer) certification is preferred but not required. • Experience working with diverse building types, retaining walls, foundations, and wastewater treatment plants is a plus. • Ability to collaborate with drafting teams and other engineers effectively.
