Description:
You’ll be operating at the heart of the network and contributing to the business aspirations of Net Zero and the delivery of the Great Grid Upgrade. Leading a virtual team working to take advantage of new technology and methodology developments such as super cooled conductors and gas insulated lines. Delivering visual improvement projects (VIP) for areas of outstanding natural beauty to replacing cables to the grid for a Hydro-electric power station, up a mountain. Location – Flexible England/Wales with hybrid working a mix of home, office and site.
You’ll have exposure to critical national infrastructure projects across the whole lifecycle from development through to delivery, and as a key signatory for system design specifications you will lead and drive the design assurance on all aspects of cable and OHL schemes across new customer connections, wider infrastructure construction and cable replacements with values up to £150m.
As the design assurance lead on site you’ll be to go to person to; resolve complex issues, agree technical variations, advise and engage with Project Managers, Operations, Consultants, Development Team, and Finance team. Essentially you will ensure the project is delivered to specification in accordance with National Grid processes and procedures that deliver the business’ regulatory, stakeholder and customer commitments. As we connect more of the country with electricity for necessities like Electric Vehicle charging this will increase the need for HVDC Connectors and Cable systems, and in major cities its likely more cable tunnels will be required, you’ll get to see the tangible results of your work and play your part in helping the world tackle climate change.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?
- STEM degree or equivalent – Electrical Bias.
- Demonstrable knowledge of project-based engineering – Electrical.
- Proven background in design compliance.
- Using and interpreting and writing technical specifications and policies.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Understanding of CDM Regulations.
- Strong experience of managing multiple stakeholders / Projects.
- Familiar with IEC, ISO and BSEN standards.
Responsibilities:
Attending site-based project meetings for works in your portfolio supporting on engineering aspects. Talking with project managers to understand the programme of works and risks. Work closely with suppliers on the cable solution for project designs, factory acceptance testing and post commissioning support. Provide input to the creation and refinement of policies, procedures, technical specifications, work specifications, internal standards and technical guidance.
