JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Industrial Designer Technician to join our dynamic design team at A-light in Montréal. The ideal candidate will assist in the development of architectural lighting products, working closely with designers, engineers, and project managers to bring concepts from early stages to final production. The role involves overseeing a range of tasks from concept reviews to manufacturing pilots and final assembly documentation.

SKILLS AND MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • At least 4 years of experience in industrial design, product development, or a related field, preferably in the lighting or manufacturing industry.
  • Technical degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in 3D modelling software such as SolidWorks.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and industrial design principles.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment.
  • Bilingual French and English: To serve clients and external service providers across Canada and USA.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices for lighting design is a plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Consultants and concepts review in the early stage of projects to ensure alignment with design intent and feasibility.
  • Collaborate with the designer on preliminary tests and validation of concepts.
  • Assist with certification planning in collaboration with the design team to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Develop and finalize 3D models and technical drawings for manufacturing.
  • Create and maintain QC drawings.
  • Prepare and oversee manufacturing pilot processes, including BOM (Bill of Materials) creation and review.
  • Create and maintain final assembly drawings, spec sheets, and other documentation.
  • Ensure smooth handoff to manufacturing.
  • Manage final part number creation and final costing.
  • Produce preliminary and final spec sheets for project documentation.
  • Plan and execute certification tests and oversee the creation of the installation manual.
  • Coordinate tooling release.
  • Travel to Oceanside, California, to support manufacturing pilots. 30 to 40 % travel.
