Our Commercial & Industrial division designs, fabricates and constructs structural steelwork for a variety of different sectors including commercial offices, stadia & leisure, industrial & distribution, data centres, retail and health and education.
The division has manufacturing sites in three locations: Dalton, Lostock, and Enniskillen. Each has full-service capabilities and modern manufacturing processes enabling us to provide a high-quality product to a variety of different sectors. Each of our sites has its own strong reputation in the market and between them cover a wider geographical area, including Europe. They continue to set the bar high in their highly complex market!
Vacancy Details
We are looking for a Pre-construction Design Engineer to join our Pre-construction department, who will be responsible for reviewing and developing all technical content of tenders, reviewing connection details, frame designs and specifications, representing Severfield at client meetings across various sectors. The role is to support the pre-construction department to securing a forward workload that is profitable, sustainable, and buildable.
You will be responsible for reviewing client information to de-risk the project by ensuring that technically what is proposed is achievable. In doing this you will consider different factors like connection details, member/frame design, temporary works development/design and Intumescent design to name a few.
A large part of this role will be identifying opportunities within the design that could be adjusted to suit our procurement, production, or erection methods to generate commercial or carbon savings offered as part of a value engineering opportunities exercise within our bid. As part of the pre-construction team, you are placed in a unique position where you have the time and can use your experience to influence the development of a project for the benefit of both the client team and Severfield.
This is a position where you are growing and maintaining relationships both internally within the company and in the wider construction market.

KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

You will need to have 3+years’ experience in designing steel connections, the design steel frames and members for either the permanent load state or temporary load state preferably within a steel fabrication company. You are required to have at least a Degree in Structural/Civil Engineering and be working towards becoming a chartered engineer. The Ideal candidate will have a working understanding of both Tekla Structures and the designing intumescent paint although not essential as training will be given on both, however, will need to be effective at communication with both internal and external stakeholders.
Good understanding of health and Safety policies and procedures is essential.
