Job Title - Design Manager
Location - Inverness
The primary purpose is to lead and coordinate the design process for our civil engineering projects, ensuring that all design deliverables meet our project requirements, and industry standards.
You will be the key liaison between the company, subcontractors, architects, and other stakeholders, driving collaboration and communication to deliver high-quality, innovative, and compliant design solutions on time and within budget. Your leadership will be crucial in managing design risks, resolving technical challenges, and ensuring the seamless integration of all design elements to achieve successful project outcomes.
Role Details
Design Coordination and Management
- Act as the primary point of contact between the company and other design teams, including subcontractors, architects, and engineers.
- Oversee the development and delivery of design packages, ensuring compliance with project requirements, timelines, and quality standards.
- Ensure all 3rd parties involved in the development of design aspects are providing project information on time.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among all project stakeholders, including internal teams, consultants, and external partners.
- Organise and lead design coordination meetings, workshops, and progress reviews.
Design Review and Approval
- Review and approve design submissions from subcontractors and consultants, ensuring they meet project specifications, client requirements, and regulatory standards.
- Identify and resolve design discrepancies, conflicts, and technical issues promptly.
Design Planning and Scheduling
- Develop and maintain design schedules in coordination with the overall project plan, ensuring timely delivery of design outputs.
- Monitor design progress against project milestones and adjust plans as necessary to keep the project on track.
Risk Management
- Identify design-related risks and work proactively with the project team to develop mitigation strategies.
- Raise contractual warnings for the failure to meet design deadlines.
- Ensure that design changes are properly documented, reviewed, and incorporated into the project scope.
Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Ensure all design activities comply with relevant codes, standards, and company specifications.
- Implement quality control processes to verify that design outputs meet required quality levels.
Budget Management
- Monitor design-related costs and work with the project team to manage design budgets effectively.
- Provide input on cost estimates, value engineering, and design optimisation opportunities to achieve cost savings.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain comprehensive records of design documentation, including approvals, revisions, and communications.
- Prepare and present regular design progress reports to the company and other stakeholders.
Technical Leadership and Guidance
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to design teams, ensuring the integration of innovative and sustainable design solutions.
Compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental Standards
- Ensure that design solutions align with health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices.
- Collaborate with HSE teams to integrate safety considerations into design processes.
Requirements
- A degree or qualification in Architectural design, civil or structural engineering.
- Additional training in BIM, AutoCad or similar software.
- 3+ years of experience in a similar role.
Additional Requirements

- Strong understanding of regulations for Health, Safety and the Environment.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
