The Opportunity
As a senior member of the engineering team, the Principal Electrical Engineer has technical and supervisory responsibility for the development of high quality, operationally efficient designs for primary and secondary high voltage (HV) systems on substation and renewable generation grid connection design and construct project(s).
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES:
About You
With degree qualifications in electrical engineering and being a Chartered Professional Engineer, you will have the following experience deemed necessary to perform the responsibilities of the role:
- Experience at a senior level within a project-based utility or construction company in one or more relevant design disciplines
- Demonstrated experience in design, including evidence of large project involvement and the ability to lead multi-discipline designs
- Evidence of a high level of ability in the preparation and review of engineering designs to all applicable client, legislative and standard requirements
- Strong knowledge of transmission grid projects and renewable generation connection technical requirements
- Experience carrying out designs for one or more transmission utility companies in the relevant state (eg Powerlink, Transgrid)
- Experience in the application of:
- ISO9000/QA processes and procedures,
- Electric Engineering codes of practice and industry standards

Responsibilities:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE INCLUDE:
- Manage a design team comprising of engineers, drafters and external consultants to ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of quality, safe and compliant designs and associated engineering documents.
- Be the single point of contact on technical matters both internally to the Project Manager and the project delivery team, to Engineering Management and to external parties as required by the contract and CPP’s internal processes.
- Effectively coordinate cross-discipline designs to ensure all interfaces are addressed and risks are appropriately managed. These design disciplines include civil, structural, primary electrical, secondary systems, protection and SCADA.
- Be proactive in resolving technical issues as they arise, working effectively with the relevant project design team specialist(s) and the wider engineering group as required to deliver the project.
- Liaise with engineering management to ensure appropriate resources are available to the project to deliver within the required time frames.
- Monitor project efficiency by reviewing performance against budget and implement actions to ensure targets are met.
Joining our in-house Design & Engineering Team consisting of over 140 highly experienced professionals, you will provide excellence in engineering. You will be an integral part of our team and play a big part in the success of the various flagship projects CPP have won. Choose to remain in Tasmania, or relocate to an office location of your choice with support and relocation assistance from CPP.
