About the role
Balfour Beatty has an exceptional opportunity for a Design Manager – Station FRC to join our outstanding Major Projects team to work at our iconic Old Oak Common development in London.
HS2s new c. 1 billion Old Oak Common station will become the UKs best-connected rail
station once completed. Our Balfour Beatty VINCI SYTRA joint venture will be responsible for the final design, construction, and commissioning of the station in Northwest London.
Upon completion, the new station will boast six underground platforms and up to eight platforms on the adjacent Great Western Main Line. Old Oak Common will also provide highspeed rail services to the Midlands, central London, Scotland, and the North, as well as direct services to three major airports. Incorporating passenger and retail facilities, the new station will provide an exceptional customer experience for both passengers and visitors to the station.
As a Design Manager – Station FRC, you will coordinate development of the detailed design provided by the consultant into fabrication package by the subcontractor. The post requires integration interfacing designs as well as management of ongoing scope change and its impact on the construction program. Working closely across significant number of internal and external stakeholders, drawing from BBVS expertise, managing impacts and mitigating risk to the project are key challenges of the job.
What you’ll be doing

Other Key responsibilities are:

  • Develop with Consultants technical design packages to the project program and key dates
  • Manage delivery and coordination of all technical aspects of assigned Work Packages and the discipline interfaces
  • Manage the coordination between design and construction teams
  • Support the Engineering, BIM and Technical Assurance teams to achieve Code 1 Acceptance of all Design Deliverables
  • Contribute to strategy and direction of Design and Design Management team
  • Lead the work packages design management activities
  • Assisting in managing the NEC contract by input on relevant matters
  • Reviewing schedule and agreeing impact of change on construction and other design packages
  • Review and checking against contract requirements to ensure compliance, quality / completeness, design intent, constructability, interfaces with other work packages
  • Promote value engineering and innovation
  • Manage obtaining of approvals of HS2’s Technical Authority, Network Rail’s and other third parties’, where necessary
