Description:

This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to be an influential part of a team delivering some of the most complex sewer solutions in the UK, a role that can “make a difference”. The design manager will lead a team of engineers on various projects in the London Infrastructure Capital Delivery team. The work varies from simple rehabilitation to complex emergency and reactive infrastructure projects. You must have extensive experience in the whole life cycle of project design, from problem identification to detail design, operability, and handover. You will be working on projects that include:

  • Sewer Rehab programme of works.
  • Critical sewers, including sewers, are included in the rail environment programme of works.
  • Rising Mains renewal programme of works.
  • Complex reactive and emergency projects.

Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING AS A DESIGN MANAGER

  • Lead a team of 6-10 design engineers to meet time and cost targets while achieving the required asset and environmental standards.
  • You will report directly to the Head of Project Engineering and provide support in project reporting and resourcing.
  • Steer and guide the design-and-build contractors to ensure that constructed solutions best meet Thames Water’s needs. This may sometimes involve innovative and non-standard solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with the Construction, Design and Management (CDM) Regulations as required.
  • Take an active role in improving H&S performance.
  • Ensure Thames Water procedures and processes are adhered to.
  • Support the other technical teams to ensure efficient delivery of the infrastructure programmes.
  • Manage the customers’ expectations and engage with stakeholders as required.
    Hybrid – Maple Lodge.
    Total time 36 hours a week. (minimum four day week or condensed hours working may be considered)
    Must have a driving licence and access to a car.

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING TO THE ROLE

  • Have a background in infrastructure design experience in the water industry or similar, including operational requirements.
  • Hold a relevant engineering degree and be a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers or equivalent.
  • Be a credible leader with the drive and energy to deliver, lead and support teams.
  • Have an awareness of performance improvement.
  • Be self-starting, resilient, and tenacious under pressure, with a desire to deliver projects on time, on cost, and of high quality.
  • Be commercially astute with an excellent practical understanding of engineering contracts.
  • Demonstrate the ability to deliver projects to meet commercial and technical objectives.
  • Be confident in communicating with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
