About the role
Balfour Beatty is seeking a dedicated and skilled Design Manager (Urban Realm), to join our amazing Major projects team to work at our iconic Old Oak Common development in London.
HS2s new c. 1 billion Old Oak Common station will become the UKs best-connected rail
station once completed. Our Balfour Beatty VINCI SYTRA joint venture will be responsible for the final design, construction, and commissioning of the station in Northwest London.
The construction of the HS2 station’s heavy civils infrastructure is nearing completion here at the Old Oak Common site, baseline detailed design is accepted by the client and the appointment of the suppliers to build the integrated station is nearing completion.
As a Design Manager (Urban Realm) at Balfour Beatty, you’ll play a key role in transforming urban environments through diverse and impactful civil works.
Your involvement will span a wide array of exciting projects: large attenuation tanks, an array of retaining structures, drainage, utilities and services ducting, chambers, provision of foundation to the 15 structures and ancillary buildings external to the main station roof & envelope. Access road and internal circulation, including intermodal TfL exchange, drop off, taxi rank and back of house access, with all pedestrian infrastructure.

Key responsibilities will be:

  • Develop and compile with consultants technical change design packages to the project’s program and key dates
  • Manage delivery of technical submissions from Work Packages contractors
  • Manage the coordination between design and construction teams and subcontractors
  • Support the Engineering, BIM and Technical Assurance (sub) teams to achieve Code 1 Acceptance of all Design Deliverable

  • Expertise in Design Management or Engineering Management
  • Understanding of CDM obligations
  • Background in Structural and Civil Engineering
  • Proficiency in English Communication (Both Verbal and Written)
