Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the office three times per week or other frequency dictated by the business.

YOUR SKILLS & ABILITIES (REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS)

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive electrical system hardware engineering (development, testing, and/or release)
  • Demonstrate excellent level of analytical ability, communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with team members and customers to solve problems and resolve issues
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple and complex projects and assignments with autonomy and accountability for results
  • Good understanding of major automotive subsystems
  • Proven ability in project management skills and ability to teach others
  • Technical writing ability to create written engineering evaluation reports
  • Ability to read, interpret and generate engineering drawings and specifications
  • Familiarity with CAD and CAE

WHAT WILL GIVE YOU A COMPETITIVE EDGE (PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS)

  • Master of Science degree in Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in Design and Release of components
  • Understanding of GD&T principles
  • Experience with ‘build to print’ parts – or Make parts within GM.
  • Experience managing OEMs or suppliers on critical timelines
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of relevant battery control and safety technologies (e.g., Vehicle battery systems, high voltage hardware) and standards is a plus
  • Experience with electrochemical, structural, and thermal analysis tools is a plus.
  • Design for Six Sigma Certification

Responsibilities:

THE ROLE

The Battery Cell Design Release Engineer will work on an assortment of GM’s current and future electrified vehicles. You’ll be responsible to design and release of active and/or inactive components within the battery cell. This role offers the opportunity to leverage electrochemical, mechanical, and electrical engineering combined with process development and project management experience to evaluate manufacturing feasibility and develop/implement innovative process concepts for battery cell technologies. You’ll develop, implement, and verify specifications for ensuring cell quality, equipment efficiency and minimizing scrap rate in production while working closely with all cross functional teams to troubleshoot quality issues, address gaps in cell-performance targets and implement mitigation measures. The Design Release Engineer will directly affect the quality, durability and performance of future battery electric vehicles manufactured by GM.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Work with cell engineering and manufacturing teams to create battery cell assembly and cell subcomponent specifications.
  • Own and drive the component design and its integration to meet overall performance of the battery cell
  • Work with cross functional engineers and teams to select appropriate designs. Reuse parts where appropriate
  • Work with Designers to ensure interface and packaging compatibility both internally and externally
  • Support purchasing in sourcing of components
  • Oversee and support DFMEA and Design Reviews Based on Test Results (DRBTR)
  • Work with manufacturing to ensure build ability and to determine quality requirements
  • Work to support manufacturing in root cause.
  • Track validation status and review results
  • Resolve all development and validation issues
  • Manage change control for the commodity
  • Provide and manage component timing plan
  • Execute and support Peer Reviews per program milestones
  • Work with suppliers to meet design and timing objectives
