Job description
We are looking for a dynamic, innovative and motivated Detective Inspector to take up a post in the Major Crime team at Nottinghamshire Police. The Major Crime team lead homicide investigations including both murder and manslaughter offences and are based on the top floor of Radford Road Police Station, NG7 5GX. Our team is made up of 1 DCI, 3 DI’s, 4 DS’s and a team of 16 DC’s and 10 PSI’s. The team are assisted by the HOLMES staff who work alongside the investigations teams and are also based at Radford Road. We pride ourselves on working very closely with force investigative resources and uniform officers and staff. In addition, our team are a regional resource and as such we are regularly required to work on homicides in Northants, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire. This is a really interesting and exciting part of the role and whilst it may sound daunting initially what we can say is that no one is left on their own and that this is where some of the best experiences come! Our DI’s are part of the regional call out rota which requires one working weekend in five with call out responsibilities spread across the five week pattern providing good breaks. There is also very much the opportunity to swap your call out days to suit your personal commitments. Our DI’s are required to become PIP3 qualified which involves attending four weeks’ worth of courses across approximately 6 months then completing a portfolio to the required standard to show your enhanced investigative abilities. There are also other training opportunities around family liaison, interviewing and wider CPD. Applicants MUST be:
- PIP2 qualified
- Substantive at Inspector rank (this includes having completed any work based assessment requirement)
The successful candidate will need to be able to:
- Be the SIO for Nottinghamshire homicide investigations
- Base themselves from Radford Road
- Be part of the regional on-call rota
- Be able to travel regionally to take part in / lead homicide investigations as appropriate
- Commit to completing their PIP3 training and portfolio
