Description:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful completion of a three-year diploma or degree in Civil or Construction Engineering combined with 3 to 5 years related experience
  • Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation.
  • Consideration may be given to those candidates with a two-year diploma in Civil or Construction Engineering, coupled with extensive related experience, and a Certified Engineering Technician (CTech) designation.
  • Proven ability to interpret complex technical reports, drawings and designs, and working with technical personnel.
  • Experience in construction scheduling/planning for land development applications/activities.
  • Knowledge of municipal road operations and inspections.
  • Experience participating in public meetings, and meetings with public and agency stakeholders.
  • Project management experience for ‘greenfield’ and infill development projects.
  • Proficient computer skills relating to word processing, spreadsheets, AMANDA System and construction engineering software programs which analyze project cost-outs and scheduling.
  • Completion of Workshop Training in Ministry Road Design and Construction and Inspection an asset.
  • Familiar with standards and inspection techniques for road construction of infill and ‘greenfield’ developments.
  • Familiarity with the town’s Site Alteration By-law, MOEE Acoustical Guidelines, utility agency and OPSS design and construction standards.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to adjust annual vacation periods to suit workload demands.
  • Good oral presentation, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • The successful candidate will be required to supply their own personal vehicle for performing job duties/corporate business before receiving a town-provided vehicle.

Responsibilities:

  • Is responsible to ensure that all privately initiated public municipal infrastructure is inspected and constructed to established town standards, policies and procedures.
  • Participates in meetings with public and agency stakeholders of the town regarding concerns, policies, and design/operational requirements particularly with respect to road construction, driveway access, and right-of-way standards for specific sites.
  • Track and report on the status of all inspection activities and maintain accurate records.
  • Review security adjustments based on construction scheduling, work undertaken by contractors, site deficiencies.
  • Assist with development of construction guidelines in consultation with other technical staff for the preparation of Section manual for the development industry.
  • Attend pre-construction meetings to ensuring developer and builder, to ensure consistency with the town’s construction policies and procedures.
  • Investigate and address landowner and homeowner complaints, ensuring timely and effective resolutions.
  • Respond promptly to inquiries from Salesforce or the public, providing clear and accurate information.
  • Collaborate closely with municipal enforcement officers to address violations related to Site Alteration By-law, Right of Way By-law, Pool enclosure By-law and Site Plan Control By-law.
  • Works closely with other Development Construction Inspectors ensuring inspection resources are met.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
