Description:
ABOUT US
This is a fantastic opportunity to work for a forward thinking dynamic London Borough. Our Greenwich Plan sets out our vision for the forthcoming years focusing on the changes we collectively want to see in our borough and Council. We want to become a more strategic, efficient and adaptive organisation, to deliver for our communities. Our workforce is key to making this happen.
Given our Royal connections, the eyes of the world are often on us and we continue to rise to the challenge of providing a modern first class environment. Our vibrant, diverse communities span Greenwich town centre in the west, to Thamesmead in the east, from the Greenwich Peninsula in the north to Eltham in the south. Royal Greenwich has a reputation for combining ambition with delivery. We are on a journey towards a low carbon future and the sustainability agenda will influence all areas of the Council’s work.
The Council has significant regeneration plans driven by strategic objectives to improve the Borough. The management of the Highways Development Control function is fundamental in achieving those ambitions.
This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping the Council’s ambitions for our future transport network, implement high-profile schemes and maintain a strong influence on the delivery of key projects.
ABOUT YOU
We are looking for an excellent communicator, who is a team player with a positive attitude and a strong commitment to probity, honesty and openness, treating people consistently, fairly and with respect.
You will be able to understand complex issues relating to planning and new development along with knowledge of Section 38/278/106 agreements. You’ll be a strategic thinker with the ability to create, lead and deliver innovative solutions.
Above all, you’ll be committed to delivering an efficient, safe, and well-connected network that our residents love – with a carbon footprint that we can be proud of. You will help to deliver the councils Transport Strategy.
To be successful in this post you will be as comfortable with strategy as you are with leading large operations. You will need to bring energy, tenacity, and strong communication skills. You will thrive on data and evaluation to evidence and inform delivery and service improvements.
Responsibilities:
This role will undertake the assessment of Planning Applications and Highway and Transport infrastructure proposals, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and technical standards. Joining our Highways and Traffic Team, you will also negotiate agreements on behalf of the Council in relation to new roads and access and help to mitigate new development issues. (S38/S278/S106).
You will report to the Highways Development Manager and will provide advice on the Local Plan and associated forward planning issues, assist, and prepare planning documents as needed, along with dealing with planning appeals.
