SAP recently decided to combine and harmonize all SAP Sovereign Cloud offerings, establishing an end-to-end process for the Public Sector and regulated industries. The Sovereign Cloud Delivery & Operations business unit is part of SAP Product Engineering with responsibility across the relevant Sovereign Cloud portfolio of SAP. Sovereign Cloud Delivery & Operations is collaborating closely with all Board areas to establish a harmonized, scalable, and consistent offering with transparent and standardized deliverables.
We are looking for a Development Manager within the Technology & Engineering unit of the Sovereign Cloud Delivery & Operations organization. The role reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer.
Currently, the Technology and Engineering unit has locations in Germany and the US, with the majority of the employees located in the US. Our new location in Portugal will extend our global footprint with a cross-cutting engineering team. This team will support the existing US and German teams in development, security and quality assurance tasks.
In your role as manager of our Portugal office, you will be responsible for building up the team and setting them up for success.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Master’s degree, MBA or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or other relevant disciplines
  • Strong engineering management skills with the ability to build up and lead successful teams
  • Experience in setting up new teams
  • Experience in ramping-up off-shore locations
  • In-depth experience with cloud products


    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify, analyze and resolve issues

    • Excellent communication skills to effectively convey strategy, plans, and results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
    • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and technical product management
    • Strong project management skills
    • Ideally, knowledge of SAP and the SAP solution portfolio
    • Experience with change management processes in complex organizations
    • Strong cultural awareness and intercultural competencies
    • Ability to build trusted relationships with key stakeholders
    • Decision-making and can-do attitude
    • Proven ability to deliver against challenging timelines
    • Persistence, self-motivation and willingness to work under pressure
    • English (fluent), German is a plus

    WORK EXPERIENCE

    • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in the field of software engineering
    • A minimum of 5 years of experience as people manager A minimum of 5 years of experience with cloud products
    • Experience with cloud software delivery tools, processes and methodologies
    • Experience with quality testing and automation tools
    • Experience with cloud security and compliance topics
    • Very good understanding of cloud infrastructure related topics
    • Ideally, experience with on-premise and/or cloud-based SAP solutions

    Responsibilities:

    As people manager for the team located in Portugal, you will collaborate with the Sovereign Cloud Technologie and Engineering leadership team, leading, motivating, and supervising the newly created Portuguese team. You will be in charge of any tasks related to ramping-up this new Sovereign Cloud location and onboarding of the new team. You will be responsible for ensuring that the team meets its objectives and delivers high-quality work in line with Sovereign Cloud T&E goals.. You will also be involved in recruiting and hiring new employees, determining staffing needs, and creating work schedules. Additionally, it will be your responsibility to foster a positive and inclusive work environment, promote teamwork and collaboration, and handle conflicts and disputes among team members. Overall, as a people manager, you will play an essential role in managing and developing a productive and motivated team.
