Description:
Are you a skilled communicator with a knack for detail and a passion for quality standards? Step into the crucial role of Development & Standards Coordinator at our Council, where you’ll be the public face of engineering-related applications.
In this role, you’ll work closely with our Developments and Standards team to manage communications, coordinate workflows, and tackle regulatory functions head-on. From managing applications for engineering works to offering expert advice on property services (like water, sewer, and stormwater), you’ll be the go-to person for developers, property owners, and professionals alike.
Your expertise will help ensure consistent standards across all projects—whether internal or external—by applying your knowledge of the District Plan, Resource Management Act, Building Act, and more.
As our Development & Standards Coordinator your key responsibilities will include:
- File and store all correspondence and information appropriately.
- Monitor and manage requests received via team email addresses, ensuring timely responses.
- Track and coordinate the progress of applications and approvals, escalating issues to the Manager Infrastructure Developments when needed.
- Assist the Development and Standards team with consents and approvals by preparing documents for execution and creating invoices.
- Collaborate with engineers and asset owners to address public inquiries about Council infrastructure. Advise property owners, developers, and industry professionals.
- Address enquiries about the engineering aspects of infrastructure assets and assist as needed.
- Seek legal advice if a potential liability risk to the Council is identified.
- Identify potential issues affecting Council’s liability and propose solutions to eliminate or reduce these risks.
- Review engineering design plans to ensure they meet consent conditions, Council’s Code, accepted engineering practices, and policies, requesting additional information when needed.
- Process all applications for service requests from within set timeframe.
To be considered for the position you will have:
- Minimum NCEA Level 1
- 3–4 years’ experience in engineering or local government.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience with engineering, environmental, and planning principles.
- Familiarity with regulatory and compliance processes.
- Experience in team coordination and clear communication.
- Proven ability to collaborate across departments and meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage deadlines and pressure effectively.
This is a permanent full time position, based at our Cape View location. We will be interviewing applications as we receive them and may close the role when we have found the right person.
