Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
The Recreation Assistant Manager is a part of the leadership team and is responsible for contributing to the operations in the Recreation Department by providing guest service and assistance to guests and colleagues using the Recreation programming and facilities. This person will also help develop Recreation concepts and strategies, maintain our leading reputation in supporting public relationships while effectively supervising departmental colleagues.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Degree or diploma in Recreation Leadership, or equivalent
- First Aid Certification required
- Boater’s License an asset
- 2 years experience in a leadership position within the Recreation or Hospitality field
- Experience working in a team environment
- Valid Ontario “G” license, with clean driving record
Physical Aspects of Position (include but are not limited to):
- Comfortable working in and around water and in outdoor conditions (all seasons)
- Constant standing and walking throughout shift
- Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs
- Frequent kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting
- Occasional ascending or descending stairs and ramps
Responsibilities:
- Provides exceptional and professional service to our guests and colleagues
- Contributes to building a positive team spirit
- Ensures the well-being of our guests and colleagues by being alert to and reporting potential hazards
- Models all Deerhurst Resort Standards while caring for the guests, co-workers and owners
- Creates the staffing schedule for the Recreation department
- Assists in department budget, payroll and vacation planning
- Assists in duties within the Adventures in Excellence programming and facilitation
- Is a key member of the recruiting and retention vision of the Recreation department
- Ensures cleanliness of area and that equipment is maintained in proper working order
- Reports any problems with equipment or services to the Recreation Manager and Director of Recreation And Adventures in Excellence
- Explains safe use of equipment to guests and colleagues
- Ensures an adequate supply of towels for all guests
- Ensures effective day-to-day communication, as well as pre-shift meeting minutes communication and follow-up
- Provides regular performance feedback and conducts formal performance reviews with colleagues
- Recognizes accomplishments of colleagues
- Ensures support, approachability and flawless execution of the Open Door Policy
- Performs assigned emergency response duties as required
- Ensures that all guests have filled out the necessary activity waivers
- A resource for alternate Recreation activities and pricing
- Inventory controls with purchasing and implementation
- Controls and prepares memberships for each season
