An exciting leadership opportunity has arisen for a Laboratory Manager, with excellent interpersonal skills and a strong commitment to team-working to join the Pathobiology and Population Sciences Department, located at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) Hawkshead campus (near Potters Bar).
The major focus of the role will be in leading and shaping the future direction and success of the Diagnostic Laboratories which provides specialist veterinary diagnostic and research laboratory services for the RVC’s Queen Mother Hospital for Small Animals (Europe’s largest small animal referral hospital), as well as national and international veterinary practices and institutions.
This role has important responsibilities in staff and resource management of all Diagnostic
Laboratory services, and fully supporting the RVC in its clinical, teaching and research missions. The laboratory provides clients with an expert-led diagnostic, research and second opinion service. This is an exciting time to join the RVC in a significant leadership role to develop strategy and services of the Diagnostic Laboratories. As part of this, the post holder will oversee the integration of digital pathology technology and new digital workflows following the recent LIMS implementation.
Applicants should have a degree or equivalent qualification in a biosciences related subject, evidence of further relevant training and management skills training. This is a full-time post.
The post holder will be responsible for the direction and day-to-day operational management of the Diagnostic Laboratories including a large budget and team of technical and clerical staff.
Ensuring appropriate and cost-effective purchasing arrangements for equipment and materials, effective staff recruitment and the delivery of training to staff within the Laboratories to always ensure continuity of service.
