Description:

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Skills required for the position:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Experience building and repairing mechanical devices
  • Experience with machine shop tools and equipment
  • Strong critical thinking and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to keep detailed records and be organized

Additional skills that would be an asset:

  • Experience with SolidWorks drawing and modelling
  • Experience with Fusion 360 CAM programming
  • Experience with electro-mechanical components
  • Experience with high or ultra-high vacuum systems

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

A Mechanical technologist or technician diploma from a technical institute such as BCIT, and some hands-on experience with mechanical device assembly.
Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada on a permanent basis (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident).

Salary Range:
$41,600.00 - $52,000.00

Responsibilities:

Provide technical support for tasks and projects within the diagnostics group including:

  • Mechanical device manufacture, procurement, assembly, troubleshooting and repair
  • Operate machine shop equipment including mill, lathe, bandsaw, welder, hand tools
  • Device wiring and repairs on 24V systems including soldering
  • Work on vacuum systems including leak checking, UHV cleaning and assembly
  • Generate required documentation including manuals, procedures, work requests, fault report resolution, and SolidWorks models and drawings
  • Available to work overtime and respond to calls outside of normal working hours to perform critical tasks
  • This role requires the following physical activity be performed on a semi-regular basis;
  • Bending or Twisting the Body: The job requires leaning forwards or backwards or moving the body torsionally.
  • Carrying: The job requires holding things while moving.
  • Handling Material Manually: The job requires using your hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Lifting: The job requires raising an object using the hands and arms
