Position: Diagnostics Technician
Location: Richmond, BC, Canada
General Fusion is transforming how the world is energized by developing the first commercially viable fusion power plant. Fusion will deliver clean, safe, and on-demand power at industrial scale, providing a powerful complement to renewables and a pathway to a zero-emissions grid.
Combining new technologies, proven industrial processes, and advances in fundamental fusion science, General Fusion aims to be the first in the world to develop commercial fusion power. Key performance requirements have been demonstrated at the system level, setting the stage for building a pre-commercial fusion power prototype.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Diagnostics Technician will provide hands on support working with diagnostic systems, as well as mechanical and electrical equipment. This role will work within our Diagnostics team to help build, maintain and troubleshoot an assortment of complex and unique equipment and machinery.

RELEVANT SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in a shop or lab environment and / or working hands on with mechanical equipment
  • Experience with hand tools, drill presses and other fabrication equipment and tools
  • Experience and comfort working in a fast paced research and development environment
  • Strong multi-disciplinary skillset with demonstrated experience in diagnosing, repairing and solving system/equipment challenges
  • Hands on experience working with a wide variety of mechanical and electrical equipment in a research or product development lab environment
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent communicator
  • Excellent documentation skills
  • Ability to lift up to 20kg

Preferred:

  • Oscilloscope experience
  • Proficient in Python or other coding (C++, C#)
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD design software (SolidWorks)
  • Familiarity with 3D printing (SLA or FDM)
  • Basic Computer Literacy (Excel, Outlook, SharePoint)

This role requires self-directed work that often is driven by employee initiative. The successful candidate will have the expertise to focus their attention on tasks that add value to the project at hand.
Salary Range: $75,000 - $95,000 base / year.

Responsibilities:

  • Assemble and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, electro-mechanical, and pneumatic systems
  • Precision mechanical assembly working with small and fragile components and parts
  • Provide input and suggestions for design and assembly procedures
  • Basic electrical work like soldering, using a multimeter, and making cables
  • Perform calibration work and data analysis
  • Maintain a clean, organized lab, shop or workplace
  • Prioritize personal and co-worker safety
