Description:

This is an exciting opportunity for the post holder to work closely with the Paediatric Dietetic team in a support worker role as a one-year fixed term contract (terminating 31/10/25). This post will involve working very closely with the Dietitians to support patient discharges, organise nutritional supplements and deliveries to patient’s homes, and support with administrative processes. Training and support for the clinical roles and responsibilities outlined in the job description.

Principle Duties

  • To be responsible for organising delivery of nutritional supplements using specified companies.
  • To support the paediatric dietitian in Catering-related tasks and attend meetings.
  • To assist with completion of Home Enteral feeding administration for children discharged home on Enteral Feeds (in house training will be provided)
  • To contribute to setting up and be responsible for maintaining operational systems within the department.
  • To achieve and maintain competencies through skills and knowledge development.
  • To collect and record patient information in EPR in line with departmental guidelines.

Communication
To communicate with companies involved in patient care (e.g. Hospital to home) to support safe discharges and high-quality patient care.
To utilise resources available and to seek support to communicate with patients and relatives who have communication difficulties. These may include non-English speakers and those hard of hearing, arranging interpreters for clinic appointments if required
To support the dietitian in collecting patient-related information using standardised protocols

To gain valid informed consent prior to any intervention. To work within a legal framework, under the supervision of a therapist, for those patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.

  • To be responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive electronic patient records in line with legal requirements and Trust guidelines.
  • To be able to recognise signs of psychological/ emotional difficulties, escalating concerns where needed; to ensure that the patient receives appropriate support.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • To answer the telephone in a professional manner, to take messages and follow them up with the appropriate person.
  • To maintain clinical and administrative records as appropriate.
