This is done by designing the digital classroom solution for the room based on design standards, scheduling availability, ordering parts, project timelines and accessibility legislation requirements.
  • The incumbent designs the learning space technology solution, which involves determining the final configuration of equipment, equipment control interface, signal distribution system and the architectural room design or modification requirements. There are different solutions required depending on whether the room is a traditional classroom environment or an active learning room, in which case the incumbent works with the Centre of Teaching and Learning to finalize the space requirements and design a solution that meets the outlined requirements.

The typical equipment encountered includes desktop and laptop computers, video/data projectors, audio amplifiers, control interfaces, switching equipment, document cameras, pan/tilt/zoom cameras, lecture capture devices, test equipment, and laser projectors or video walls.
  • The incumbent troubleshoots equipment problems accurately and efficiently by determining if the issues are due to a configuration or programming error, hardware failure, cabling issue or an end-user issue. This may involve working with service providers on an as-needed basis to test, isolate and repair faults that affect the quality and reliability of the classroom digital systems.
  • The incumbent programs and upgrades firmware on control hardware, including switches, transmitters and receivers, projectors, graphics controllers and network switches.
  • The incumbent creates statements of work for the classroom and conference room builds, and requests quotes from vendors of record for equipment, cabling, amplifiers, distribution and display systems, podium and other required items.
  • The incumbent responds to and corrects presentation technology problems during a class or event when requested. Examples include providing instruction to a user on the correct way to use the digital classroom technology via the telephone or in person, controlling the digital classroom equipment remotely from the desktop via the IP room control or XIOCloud, diagnosing and fixing technical problems on the spot via site visit, and replacing equipment when necessary.
