BUSINESS ANALYST

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a difference on a range of exciting and meaningful government projects that will transform public services and join the growing business analyst community within Farsight Consulting.
We primarily work in the public sector, supporting initiatives that improve society and the lives of citizens; with not-for-profit organisations, charities and social enterprises; and with some private-sector companies.
We are looking for adaptable business analysts who work out the best way to help clients and users achieve their goals through working with teams to define, improve and deliver innovative digital and IT products and services. At Farsight Consulting – we promote multidisciplinary, ‘T shaped’ skillsets in our people and provide coaching and upskilling through a dedicated coaching model and skills academy

REQUIREMENTS

You are open, curious, and excited about making a difference during this exciting period of growth. Some of the things we are looking for include:

  • Working understanding of the principles of Agile across different delivery life stages, the roles within an Agile team and the value a BA brings
  • A business analyst who can work in a range of agile digital delivery life stages
  • Work closely with stakeholders to identify goals, define areas to add value, identify risks, develop roadmaps and prioritise features
  • Gather and interpret complex information from a range of sources to provide recommendations
  • Application of frameworks and different methodologies to understand, break down, and articulate the problem space to identify potential solutions
  • Using a hypothesis-driven approach to test ideas out, fail fast and iterate thinking
  • Development of process maps to support an understanding of the current process to inform solution thinking and identify areas of improvement.
  • Eliciting, defining and managing user stories, requirements and acceptance criteria on Agile projects
  • Interpreting and discussing solution designs with Solution Architects, and in turn, effectively communicating their benefits and drawbacks to business
  • Contributing to communities of practice to support the learning and development of yourself and others
  • Advising clients on how to develop and report against KPIs for new digital developments and improvements to existing digital services.

REQUIREMENTS

We’ll assess the following skills during the application process:

  • Agile Requirements Engineering. You’ll have a breadth of experience in business analysis and have applied this in multiple stages of the project lifecycle in service or software delivery. You can apply and adapt these pragmatically and innovatively to meet the needs of a team and client. You’ll apply your requirements engineering expertise, curiosity and creativity to interesting and complex GDS projects and problems working with technical teams and stakeholders.
  • Working within an Agile Team. You’ll have experience working in Agile Teams and GDS and be confident advising and supporting Delivery Managers and Product Owners in managing backlogs, prioritising features, as well as presenting or facilitating at ceremonies like Three Amigos, Refinement and Show & Tells. You’ll have experience of supporting backlog management(e.g. using tools like JIRA, Azure Devops, Trello).
  • Solving complex problems: you will have extensive experience working as part of Agile teams to investigate and identify potential solutions for problems within complex landscapes, using a range of analysis techniques to help team members and stakeholders break down, understand, and prioritise.
  • Data Modelling and Mapping. You’ll understand how to model data at a conceptual and logical level, and may have worked with data engineers. You’ll understand how APIs can be leveraged to support digital Cloud micro services. You’ll be comfortable leading data mapping AS IS and TO BE data to transform legacy processes into digital services or improve existing digital services supported by data-driven business rules.
  • Manipulating Data. You will be competent working with datasets to develop findings which inform decision making using data analysis tools (e.g. Excel, SQL, or Power BI) .
  • Technical Competency. You’ll be able to use techniques to understand new technologies and discuss complex solution designs and data opportunities with Solution Architects. Technical Leads, and Data Engineers. Working with others you will be able to identify benefits or drawbacks to potential solutions from a data, business or customer perspective and communicate these effectively.
  • Measuring Success. You understand the need to understand and define the AS IS state in terms of business value currently being delivered and are able to advise clients on how to develop and report against KPIs for new digital developments and improvements to existing digital services.
  • Communication. You have strong listening, and verbal and written communication skills, that you can leverage to build relationships and facilitate effectively, asking the right questions to ensure all the information needed is elicited. You have experience communicating sensitive messages and navigating difficult conversations, steering these towards positive outcomes.
  • Knowledge Sharing. You’ll enjoy sharing your analysis and solution delivery knowledge supporting Delivery Managers, Product Owners and more junior members of the team, and contributing to building the Farsight Business Analyst Community of Practice building the analysis capability.

Nice to haves

  • Experience of using specific tools (e.g. SQL, Python, etc.) to achieve access to and an understanding of the data available within legacy or existing solutions.
  • Experience or knowledge of Google Analytics and how to write performance analysis requirements for digital solutions.
  • Experience of defining solutions that used AI or machine learning.
  • Experience of Amazon Web Services (AWS) solutions.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure components and solutions.
