Job Summary
IWM is looking for two enthusiastic candidates to join our Duxford Collections Operations team to provide support for a critical collections storage project. You will work to identify, process, pack and move historic film collections using specialist vacuum packing machinery. Following a set procedural, you will gain an insight into museum collections storage, the importance of environmental condition management for collections, and collections documentation.
There are two vacancies available for this role, and they provide an ideal opportunity for those looking to gain experience working in museums for the first time. The role is fixed-term until February 2025. Applications from candidates interested in part-time working are welcomed. Please note that candidates will be required to wear protective clothing whilst working in cold environments and to use industrial packing equipment, for which training will be provided.
Key duties will include:
- Working in partnership with Project Delivery and Visual Resources staff members to facilitate the movement of film collections to new storage
- Learning and safely using key equipment to prepare film items for storage, including a vacuum packer and film re-corer. Training will be provided.
- Undertaking handling, packing and movement of collection items, safely and to required standards.
- Completing documentation for the movement of objects using IWM’s collections management system.
- Complying with IWM policies and procedures, which govern accountable and effective collections management, throughout.
- Ensuring adherence to safe working practices, working to agreed method and risk assessments.
The post-holder will be based at IWM Duxford but will, on occasion, be required to work or attend meetings or training sessions at any of the museum’s locations as directed.
