QUALIFICATIONS

Experience and Education: High school education and 6 years of relevant experience or bachelor’s degree and 1 to 3 years of experience. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (photography, media production, museum studies, library/information science, art history, etc.). One year or more of experience working in a cultural heritage institution.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  1. Professional experience using DSLR, mirrorless, and/or medium format digital cameras in conjunction with Capture One, Phocus, Lightroom, or other tethered capture software with a high degree of computer literacy (MacOS, Windows, associated software).
  2. Working knowledge of national and international digitization guidelines and standards such as Federal Agencies Digitization Guidelines Initiative, Metamorfoze, and/or ISO TS 19264.
  3. Experience handling rare and fragile books, documents, oversize items, photographs, motion picture films, and three-dimensional artifacts.
  4. Ability to meet deadlines and to prioritize work in alignment with the service goals of the library and the team.
  5. Meticulous attention to detail for sustained periods of time.
  6. Working knowledge of metadata and its importance to the digitization program.
  7. Ability to make decisions directly affecting the digitization program; can collaborate and partner effectively; able to apply best practices; can use advanced techniques and technology to innovate; ability to perform or administer complex or specialized duties.
  8. Ability to work in and contribute to an environment of inclusion, diversity, equity, and belonging.
  9. Demonstrated history of successful support, education, and advocacy for all students, aligned with the values, mission, and messaging of the university, while adhering to the staff policy on conflict of commitment and interest.
  10. Ability to interact and communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and patrons/collaborators face to face.
  11. Ability to meet consistent attendance.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Provide expertise in complex imaging including Cultural Heritage artifacts and documents and apply best practices while photographing collections materials; utilizes advanced techniques and technologies to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. Possess a significant level of expertise within reprographic photography; maintains knowledge about emerging issues and trends in the field; understands the information lifecycle of digitization, metadata, digital collections, and digital preservation programs within the library’s strategic positioning. (25%)
  2. Set project plans to execute multiple concurrent digitization projects of institutional collections photography and on-demand imaging requests from internal and external stakeholders for research, exhibition, printing, publication, and preservation. (15%)
  3. Utilize emerging imaging technologies to expand capacity in analytical imaging for cultural heritage. (10%)
  4. Hire, schedule, train, and oversee the work activities of student assistants. (10%)
  5. Collaboratively develop and implement workflows, maintain integrity of all hardware and software and a high-level of lab hygiene within digitization areas. (10%)
  6. Work closely with Preservation Services Team Leader to develop capacity and find efficiencies in audio-visual digitization, employing legacy playback equipment and current capture technology (8%)
  7. Ensure continued quality, expansion, and improvement of internal digitization facilities in accordance with national and international standards by utilizing assessment metrics, including advanced image analysis and system performance data. (8%)
  8. Work collaboratively with library stakeholders to increase administrative efficiency. (6%)
  9. Contributes to and maintains a work culture of inclusion, diversity, equity, and belonging. (6%)

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Will be responsible for hiring, training, and evaluating the performance of student employees.
