Position Summary:
Responsible for creating a positive experience and using a customer service centred approach for everyone who uses the Food, Beverage and Hospitality Services of “The Terrace” restaurant. Contributes to the food quality and safety of all customers. Provides Dining Room services to meet the overall goals, standards and practices of “The Terrace” restaurant.
Responsibilities:
- Provides customer-centered dining room services:
- Greet all customers before seating and provide positive and respectful interaction.
- Takes orders from customers and completes payment transactions in an accurate and timely manner.
- Maintains efficient operation of dining room services by assisting in the coordination of seating, reservations and events.
- Ensures customer satisfaction by supporting customer surveys, responding to concerns and complaints and communicating with the kitchen staff and management about service needs.
- Conducts daily inventory and replenishing supplies.
- Assists Kitchen Attendant to ensure all dining room wares and equipment are stored safely in proper shelves and cupboards.
- Cleans and sanitizes all dining tables and service stations and maintains cleanliness, tidiness and hygiene of dining room area at all times and after closing service.
- Provides back-up kitchen services:
- Assists in preparing food items including peeling, paring, cutting, slicing and washing in the production area occasionally
- Helps and acts as back-up in the dish washing area for washing of wares and equipment occasionally
- Promotes safety of customers :
- Ensures the safety of self and others by performing work safely according to organizational health and safety policies and departmental safety procedures and policies and complies with safe food handling practices and all legislated safety regulations (e.g. Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)).
- Ensures services to customers are delivered in a safe and supportive manner.
- Assists in training volunteers in dining room operations and service.
- Ensures equipment in the dining room area is in good working condition and files reports for any health and safety related concerns and necessary equipment repairs in a timely manner.
- Checks that the dining room environment and practices are meeting health and safety standards for customers, staff and volunteers on regular basis.
- Performs other support duties:
- Assists Food, Beverage and Hospitality Service team in providing support to volunteers to work effectively and efficiently, and guidance of using equipment, material and protective devices in safe manner.
- Reports to Manager of any health and safety related issues in the dining room area and makes recommendations for quality improvement.
- Attends meetings and participates in SPLC’s activities.
- Assists Food, Beverage and Hospitality Service Manager in both shift closing and daily restaurant closing as required including ensuring the accuracy of all transactions per shift.
- Participates in all required training
Education :
- High School graduate with OSSD or equivalent
Skills & Experience:
- One year of experience as a server, host or coordinator in a busy restaurant
- Good verbal and written skills, in both English and Cantonese required Experience working with frail or cognitively impaired seniors
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Team oriented with the ability to provide positive leadership to volunteers within a team
- Ability to work on variable hours in a fast-paced environment
- Experience working in a multi-cultural environment an asset
- Must know Mandarin/Cantonese
Working Conditions: :
- Exposure to hot temperatures in the kitchen
- Standing and walking for long periods of time

Hours of Work:
- Full time: 35 hours per week
- Required to work Saturdays (based on schedule)
- Additional hours required for special events and banquet requiring Food, Beverage and Hospitality services
