Overview:
Millions of people use GitHub every day to create software together, and GitHub is a foundational tool for any aspiring or professional software developer. We are looking for a product management leader to lead our Productivity & Engagement team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for our product experiences that bring together GitHub’s vast platform into a set of simple experiences that help developers get the most out of the platform, and you’ll help GitHub reach and onboard new users as we grow to 1bn developers by 2030. You’ll report to the VP for Core Productivity, and join a team of product managers, engineers and designers responsible for the heart of GitHub - from repos and PRs, to issues, notifications and the GitHub mobile apps. This role has people management responsibilities including driving employee growth and development, executing projects, and managing performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the product strategy across a broad surface area of the GitHub product, including: iOS and android apps, the desktop app, GitHub CLI, new user onboarding, dashboard, Education, learnings pathways, Sponsors, and Docs.
  • Define the vision, strategy and roadmap for the area, in partnership with your direct reports and other partner product managers. Your strategy will help GitHub grow to 1bn developers, expose new users to the power of Copilot to enable new and experienced developers to get more out of GitHub, and help users be productive however they interact with GitHub.
  • In collaboration with Engineering and Design, lead execution on the roadmap, to deliver exceptionally high quality experiences at every touchpoint for users.
  • Define and report on KPIs and success metrics for the area. Continuously monitor and analyze data and customer feedback to identify areas for improvement and optimization.
  • Mentor, coach and grow your team. Ensure each of your product managers grow and advance their skill sets to be successful in their careers.
  • Foster an inclusive environment across the company where team members are empowered to do their best work and demonstrate a strong sense of ownership and belonging.
  • Conduct competitive analysis, market and user research in collaboration with the User Research team, and examine market and industry trends to inform strategic roadmap decisions. Leverage knowledge of the broader ecosystem of GitHub products to inform decisions on where to leverage capabilities and functionalities across the ecosystem.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Several years experience in product/service/project/program management, software development, product design, or related field
  • OR Bachelor’s Degree in related field AND experience in product/service/project/program management, software development, product design, or related field
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • People management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience within developer tools, social platforms, or global-scale services.
  • Experience working in design or exceptional attention to detail, to ensure that every moment a user spends with GitHub is awesome.
  • Experience as an engineer, or high empathy towards engineers as users and ability to collaborate with engineer teams to deliver high quality services at scale and at pace.
  • Exceptional customer and stakeholder relationship skills including the ability to discover the true requirements underlying feature requests or stated needs.
  • Strong skills in data analytics. Experience with SQL or KQL is highly beneficial.
  • Experience in running large-scale services and managing significant operations at a global level is a plus.
