We are presently accepting resumes for a full-time Direct Care Staff Awake Overnight to work in our Accommodation Program - O’Brien House. This position supports people with intellectual disabilities with all aspects of their daily living. Duties may include support with finances, medical appointments, personal care, household duties, meal preparation, and supporting individuals to get ready for their daily activities as per their individual choices or plans. This position works primarily the awake overnight with occasional day hours being scheduled to attend training and/or team meetings. This is a 6-month contract, with the possibility of extension.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE:
- Successful completion of grade 12 high school diploma and a PSW Certificate. Other post-secondary academic credentials maybe considered for equivalency
- Previous recent work experience in a community residential setting providing support for individuals with disabilities is preferred and a definite asset
- Current valid certificates in First Aid, CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (N.V.C.I) and medication dispensing or successful completion of a recognized pharmacology course
- Understanding of The Council on Quality and Leadership, Personal Outcome Measures is an asset
Responsibilities:
- Using a Personal Outcome Measures lens, act as the support person for people residing in the home, supporting people to develop and realize individualized goals through the Individual Support
- Participating in the planning process in accordance with the desire of the person and in conjunction with the Supports and Services Supervisor and the Senior Support Worker
- Completing all required documentation in a timely and effective manner, as outlined in Documentation Due reports and as requested by the Supports and Services Supervisor
- Actively participating and supporting the person to work toward achieving their personal outcomes
- Providing guidance and direct support in areas identified as necessary related to activities of daily living, personal care, communication, emotional, physical and mental health, safety, finances, relationship development to foster independence
- Providing personal care when needed and visual checks throughout the night to all people supported in the home
- Preparing and serving meals and beverages in a visually appealing manner, ensuring polite and courteous service during meals time and as needed throughout the shift.
- Demonstrating empathy towards individuals that require assistance with feeding, providing the necessary level of support and aid
- Maintaining vigilance over the physical and mental well-being of individuals, promptly reporting any changes in condition to the on-site coordinator, while accurately and diligently updating individual records as necessary
- Facilitating family involvement where appropriate and when requested by the person
- Working in conjunction with the on-site coordinator or team members to provide crisis intervention and assistance in accessing community supports as appropriate
- Monitoring person’s behaviour, psychoactive medication usage, possible blood sugar levels and other tracking as needed and provide feedback and recording to the team and on the Electronic Medication Administration System.
- Ensuring that the workplace is maintained in a clean, safe and secure manner. This includes completing laundry from day shift and any accumulated laundry from the night. Sweeping and mopping all floors, as well as other cleaning duties outlined on nightly cleaning checklist
- Completing nightly fire and safety checklist each shift
