Job Title: Direct Student Support Counselor
Department: Customer Support
Location: Lagos, Nigeria
The opportunity:
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable education counselor to help international students select the best schools and programs suited to their goals. Your job is to help international students pursue their education dreams abroad. You will do this by providing personalized service to international students through the likes of phone, live chat, email, Whatsapp, and other communication applications and tools. This is a high-performance, individual contributor role with the primary goal of increasing the number of paid applications from direct students on our platform

What you’ll be doing everyday:

  • Advising Students: Provide tailored advice to international students on suitable schools and programs based on their academic history, career goals, and admission probabilities.
  • Application Guidance: Assist students in understanding and navigating the application process, including gathering required documents (e.g., transcripts, language tests, resumes, statement of purpose), understanding deadlines, and next steps along the way.
  • Communication: Engage with students via phone, live chat, and email to answer queries, provide updates, and offer support throughout the application process.
  • User Feedback: Identify and report students’ needs and challenges.
  • Additional Services: Educate students on the additional services available to them, such as loans, GICs and scholarships.

What you bring to the table:

  • Previous experience in academic advising, international education, or a similar role is required. Preference will be given to candidates with experience counseling students for overseas education in countries such as Canada, the UK, US, and Australia
  • Strong sales skills with evidence of achieving and exceeding sales targets
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), cultural sensitivity, and the ability to provide empathetic support.
  • Familiarity with various international education systems, admission processes, and visa requirements is required
  • Organized and diligent. Able to keep organized managing large student volumes. Diligent enough to follow up with students regularly to support their application journey
  • Self-motivated and solutions-oriented. Able to drive results on your own through initiative, focus, and problem-solving skills
  • Able to learn quickly about changes to visa requirements, education programs, and other factors key to helping students make informed decisions
  • Experience using Zendesk, Jira, and Google suite is an asset
  • Ability to prioritize tasks with attention to detail to ensure information accuracy.
  • Be flexible with working hours
