JOB SUMMARY
The responsibility of the Director, Regional Transportation Quebec/Atlantic is to lead the regional team in balancing its objective of driving cost-to-serve efficiencies, while meeting regulatory compliance requirements and customer experience expectations. As a member of the National Transportation organization leadership team, he/she will contribute in defining national delivery network and carrier strategies and best-in-class processes in the areas of operational performance and regulatory compliance. The Director, Regional Transportation Quebec/Atlantic is responsible to manage McKesson private fleet and drivers as well as partner carriers within the region and is accountable for the regional transportation budget. He/she is required to engage with and influence multiple key internal stakeholders such as Distribution, Operations, Customer Service, Regulatory/Quality, Strategic Sourcing, Human Resources, Legal and Finance, both at a regional and national level.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management (operations, logistics, supply chain) or Engineering (industrial) or related field is required.
- Post-graduate degree or certification designation (CITT) is desirable.
- 10+ years of progressive responsibilities in the areas of transportation, logistics or distribution, 5+ years in a management role.
- Experience in the pharmaceutical distribution industry or related regulated distribution industries and/or large-scale national distributor/last mile transportation operations is an asset.
- Experience in DSD (Direct to store delivery).
- Leadership – demonstrated ability to lead teams in a complex organization and quickly establish credibility across the organization, to engage and influence others.
- Financial acumen – demonstrated proficiency in planning, managing an operations budget: identifying root causes to explain variances and elaborating targeted actions to met financial plans.
- Negotiation and contract management – demonstrated ability in negotiating transportation service and transportation equipment contracts and to manage strategic supplier relationships with national/regional partners.
- Operational performance – demonstrated ability to develop and deploy analytical models and KPIs related to total cost-to-serve and network performance.
- People Management – demonstrated ability to mobilize, coach and drive accountability with a diverse team, including individual contributors, managers of people and associates. Experience in a unionized environment is an asset.
- Communication – demonstrated ability to communicate with all levels of the organization clearly and concisely and across functions to persuade and lead others in situations of challenge.
- Fleet Management – proven track record in optimizing efficiency of a private fleet of linehaul and last mile vehicles.
- Technology & Systems – demonstrated ability to work with different technology solutions such as Transportation Management System (TMS) and fleet management systems, routing optimization software and carrier sourcing platforms, experience with Oracle OTM an asset.
- Written and oral fluency in English and French is required.
- Availability to travel within the region (up to 25%) is required.

Responsibilities:
- Ensures lowest transportation cost-to-serve by analyzing company and customer needs, researching transportation methods, best practices, network review and auditing fleet cost and carrier costs, and performances.
- Interprets laws, rules and regulations regarding transportation and ensures compliance to such regulations in the region.
- Oversees maintenance and accuracy of information on routes, rates, and services.
- Oversees planning and coordination of fleet operations, selects, and negotiates contracts with and manages third-party transportation companies’ performance.
- Engages with and influences multiple key internal stakeholders such as Distribution Operations, Customer Service, Regulatory/Quality, Human Resources, Legal and Finance, both at a regional and national level.
- Manages regional transportation activities through first level managers and specialist individual contributors.
- Assists with the development of National Transportation department strategies, objectives, and performance standards/metrics, accountable to implement and deploy in the region.
- Responsible for the regional transportation budget, drives financial performance by ensuring financial targets are met and identifies opportunities to drive cost-to-serve efficiencies.
- Ensures regional and/or national transportation related initiatives are delivered as per plan within the region and accountable to meet customers delivery expectations.
- Actively supports the transportation strategic priorities and LRP.
- Directly manages a team of managers and individual contributors and is accountable for the engagement level of all employees within span of control, including associates.
- Fosters a cohesive team unit and manages talent pipeline to enable organizational capabilities.
- Acts as the escalation point for regional decisions that will impact unit operations and may result in delays that could jeopardize overall business activities, add to cost-to-serve and may impact the medium-term goals of the organization.
- Works on complex to highly complex issues where analysis of situation requires a good understanding of organizational objectives.
- Integrates the activities of multiple workgroups and disciplines to obtain results.
- Frequently interacts with direct reports, customers, carrier partners, managers and/or peer group managers.
- Interacts with senior management on matters specific to scope of responsibility.
- Communicates organizational and functional strategies and translates it into functional goals for regional team.
