DESCRIPTION
We are seeking an individual who can act as a Director of Corporate Development. This individual will have the demonstrated the ability to provide hands-on management of individual projects and acquisitions, as well as strategic direction to a broader program.
Providence has embarked on a bold ‘Health 2.0’ vision to build a more patient-centric and tech-enabled care ecosystem, to lead in healthcare innovation, and to deliver exceptional caregiver experience. As part of Health 2.0, we have expanded our pursuit of partnerships, acquisitions, and other revenue diversification opportunities. We recently launched strategic alliances between Providence and Microsoft, Nuance, and Grail; led efforts to found Truveta (a cross-industry data alliance to accelerate clinical innovation and advance health equity); and created Tegria, a new for-profit endeavor to develop and scale next-generation technologies and services for health providers.
PSJH’s Corporate Development team has been the driving force behind these efforts. The team is a strategic group that advises the CEO, CFO, and COO on assessing, prioritizing, and completing acquisitions and partnerships that support modernizing PSJH’s operations, improving its capital efficiency, and diversifying its revenues. We are looking to expand our team to further accelerate the scale and velocity of our partnership and M&A efforts.
As Director of Corporate Development, you will play an integral part of the Corporate Development team. This will include supporting pipeline development and diligences of organizations for acquisition, focused broadly on data and analytics and clinical solutions; providing day-to-day management of future strategy; and, providing guidance as required on future state operations of revenue diversification efforts.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in any field
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Law, Business Administration or Biology / Life Sciences; or equivalent educ/experience (preferred)
- Master’s Degree in Engineering, Law, Business Administration or Biology / Life Sciences; or equivalent educ/experience (preferred)
- 5+ years in increasingly senior roles at either a Healthcare, Technology, or Consulting company
- 10+ years preferred
- 3 years of background in both healthcare and technology
- 3 years of experience in management consulting or investment banking (preferred)
- 3 years of experience in a major, integrated health system (preferred)
- Ability to effectively build relationships with customers, executive management, and other stakeholders through positive interaction and problem identification and resolution
- Effective negotiation skills
- Broad knowledge and understanding of the trends and changes taking place in health care
- Understanding of local integrated delivery systems of a large, multi-site health system.
Responsibilities:
- Mission alignment
- Define and exhibit Providence St. Joseph’s core mission and values including enforcing adherence to in-house policies and high ethical standards
- Strategy and financials
- Working closely with the VP of Corporate Development and other executive stakeholders, support partnerships strategy and pipeline development – including articulating key investment themes aligned to the broader Providence/Tegria strategy, evaluating build/buy/partner options, identifying potential targets, and triaging inbound opportunities
- Support business case development for new opportunities – including identifying and quantifying sources of value creation and strategizing structures / tactics for capturing value
- Support VP of Corporate development in actively driving due diligence, negotiations, and execution for strategic alliances and acquisitions
- Manage the ongoing operations of new strategic alliances after deal negotiation, ensuring that operational, innovation, and GTM value is delivered for both Providence and Tegria
- Curate relationships with early-stage health technology innovators and investors
- Work cross-functionally with corp dev, clinical operations, IS, and Tegria to build a pilot / innovation program to (1) better leverage extensive frontline caregiver experience to surface opportunity areas, (2) enable rapid testing and validation of prospective partner technologies in a low-cost, low-risk environment, and (3) drive faster pathways to scale for high-impact solutions
- In partnership with acquired entities, Finance, IS, and other relevant PSJH entities, provide analytical and operational support on a variety of strategic projects, incl. GTM activities, product development, and cross-portfolio opportunities to ensure the success and growth of Providence revenue diversification efforts
- Leadership:
- Work with a diverse set of Providence and Tegria stakeholders – including physician leaders and frontline caregivers – to identify problem or opportunity areas that could be addressed by new partnerships/acquisitions
- Manage a small team of direct reports, including Managers and Analysts
- Share best practices with other members of the Corporate Development, M&A Integration, and PSJH more broadly
- Support the identification, recruiting, and retention of talent to further expand the corporate development, and non-core functions
- Culture: Foster a culture of internal innovation and entrepreneurship; launch and sustain an inclusive and supportive working environment; represent Corporate Development within PSJH; and manage relationships with external partners, investors, and the public community
