Job Description
We are looking for a Director, Chemicals & Biorefining, to lead our process technology expert team for chemicals and biorefining. The main responsibility of the technology team is to execute feasibility and scoping studies for clients in the vast field of bioindustries and PtX. Technology managers and specialists also work as technology advisors in basic and detail process engineering projects.

As the new Director, you shall:

  • lead a team of ten technology manager
  • ensure and develop the technological competence of your team in short and long term in domestic and international project
  • take an active role in sales, proposal preparation and contract negotiations in chemicals & biorefining sector
  • collaborate and co-operate in a global setting both internally and externally, and actively strengthen co-operation with our subconsultants
  • enable project execution in FEL0-FEL3-stage consulting and engineering projects

The Director’s work is very versatile. Depending on the situation, you will meet clients, work for business development within the chemicals & biorefining sector, lead your own team and co-operate with other business sectors inside the company. You are also expected to bring your chemical process technology expertise to the Technology and Process Engineering Unit under which the director’s team operates.
AFRY’s core business idea in the Chemicals & Biorefining sector is to work as a technologically independent one-stop shop for companies planning industrial investments. This means that we work with many different companies from start-ups to big industrial players and a vast number of different technologies and technology applications from one project to another. As the Director, Chemicals & Biorefining, you will get a bird’s eye view of many of the technological advances happening in the industry and get to grow your own understanding of the chemical industry and business leadership skills along the way as we make future.
Your main office location will be Vantaa at AFRY’s other offices in is also possible.
Qualifications

In order to succeed in this role, you should have

  • M. Sc. Tech degree in Chemical Engineering
  • ambition to work for strong commitment and impressive results of the team
  • strong leadership qualities and excellent communication skills
  • over 10 years of relevant work experience in chemical engineering projects (preferably in process engineering) and experience from work in multidisciplinary engineering work environments
  • deep understanding of basic chemical and physical processes applied in bioindustry
  • knowledge of the different sectors and players in chemicals & biorefining market
  • ability to adjust to the fast-paced project environment taking ownership and finding solutions to the problems encountered
  • persistence in developing our know-how and skills in project execution
  • fluency in English and proficiency in Finnish at a moderate level is preferred
  • readiness to travel
