Position summary
As a member of the Clinical Science Leadership team (CS-LT), the candidate will manage a team of clinical scientists to support the Implants Platform, Surgical Vision in the design and execution of clinical trials for product registration as well as lifecycle management, and partner with cross-functional teams to ensure all clinical activities are aligned with upstream R&D activities, downstream marketing and product positioning objectives.
Masters Complexity - Defines and implements department or platform strategies and serves as an authority to the team. Understands the interrelationship among functions and with other business areas. Serves as technical representative for department.
Innovation - Identifies and manages risks understanding business needs. Ensures the development and implementation of leading-edge products and clinical measurement techniques internally/across sites/platforms.
Customer Focus - Develops and ensures departmental or platform initiatives maximize customer value at lowest cost.
Interdependent Partnering - Sponsors departmental and cross-functional team development. Removes barriers. Provides project leadership or participates as a team member on major initiatives that have high impact to the business. Key member of clinical sciences leadership team. Applies influence across departments and the business.
Organizational & People Development - Accountable for organizational depth to meet present and future business needs, looking across J&J companies. Serves as a change agent for global efficiency.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and long-term vision to the Clinical Science, Implants Platform team to support Johnson & Johnson Vision’s clinical, regulatory and business objectives.
  • Lead, develop and drive strategy of Clinical Science Implants Platform organization, while supporting the global clinical science team. Ensure design, execution and reporting of quality, compliant, innovative clinical studies to support new product development while ensuring safety of clinical study subjects/patients.
  • Evaluate clinical performance of new intraocular lens technologies for internal projects and through review of business development opportunities
  • Support communications with FDA and other worldwide health authorities concerning clinical/medical issues.
  • Prepare and own the budget for clinical science equipment platform and ensure that appropriate resources are assigned the team resulting in quality, innovative, efficient clinical studies that meet timelines.
  • Leads the performance and development of assigned staff, providing training and opportunities for growth. Ensures the department’s objectives and accomplishments meet the organization’s goals and strategic plan.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors Degree required; Advanced Degree (MD, OD, PhD) preferred - advanced management training or experience preferred;
  • At least 10 years of working experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Ophthalmology experience and experience in leading clinical research programs and staff in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry preferred
  • Sound knowledge of regulatory strategies to gain and maintain the marketing status of the product portfolio.
  • Strong organizational, communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively influence upper management, affiliates, regulatory agencies, and industry to ensure that regulatory and business needs are met. Understanding of the concept and application of Good Clinical Practices and clinical design.
  • Ability to travel 10%-20% of the time is required.

    The anticipated base salary for this position is $160,000 -$276,000 .

    The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
