QUALIFICATIONS
- 7+ years managing software development teams.
- BS or MS/MBA degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, and/or equivalent formal training or work experience
- Experience managing, mentoring, and recruiting team leads and managers.
- Experience leading development of complex software architectures and platforms in a cloud-based environment with high availability.
- Strong track record of shipping scalable, reliable, client-facing software.
- Ability to work well and productively, always projecting a positive outlook in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to translate company vision and strategy into meaningful work for technical teams and to understand and plan what is needed from a technical architecture perspective to deliver against the vision.
- Strong situational leadership instincts and abilities.
- Ability to represent engineering priorities to non-technical audiences, including reduction of tech debt and investments needed to increase technical velocity.
- Proactive and creative problem-solving skills and ability to evaluate options, analyze complex problems, and present possible solutions in a simple, easily understood manner.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, teamwork, and customer service.
- Ability to ensure that technical decisions are made promptly and are aligned with the architectural vision for the platform.

Responsibilities:
- As a Director of Cloud Engineering, you will provide the direction, support, and transformational leadership to enable a team of managers and technical leaders to drive innovation, inspire teams, build scalable, high-availability, distributed computing systems for our industry-leading Public Safety solutions. You are obsessed with creating high-functioning, highly engaged, and motivated teams.
- You will be a leader of leaders by providing mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities across your team and defining and executing our long-term architectural direction. You are expected to keep abreast of trends within the industry, identifying those that will allow us to continue to lead our clients.
- You will lead the design and development of high-performance, scalable, maintainable, and fault-tolerant enterprise SaaS/Cloud applications ensuring adherence to proven design principles with a strong focus on availability and uptime.
- You will balance the short-term and long-term product needs with both technical debt and areas of strategic investment. You will define KPIs, goals, and your team’s vision as a foundation of the broader mission and drive your development teams to consistently improve cycle time, quality metrics, time to market, and meeting objectives set by management and the industry.
- You will set the example for cross-functional leadership, working across your team boundaries within engineering and outside of it to ensure the delivery of highly impactful products to our clients. You will collaborate with product, sales, and marketing teams to articulate the technical value proposition of our software products, support business development efforts, and foster a spirit of innovation and continuous improvement with a high sense of accountability.
- You have exceptionally strong communication skills and can simplify tough technical concepts so that those with a non-technical background outside of engineering (and outside of the company) can understand them. You are also working to create a positive public presence for us, attending talks, meetups, etc. to ensure that we continue to develop an amazing roster of talented engineers.
- You have a strong production operations mindset and have the willingness to make tough calls and, if necessary, take tough actions to further the business. You handle discipline and termination of employees following company policy.
