Director, Data Center Global Operations Engineering Project Support

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Engineering Manager to lead our Project Support team. As the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the Project Change Control process and managing a team of subject matter experts (SMEs) who support technical reviews of capital expense projects across regions. Additionally, you will collaborate with Global Design & Construction to review new, non-standard designs and value engineering designs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field. Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience in engineering management or a similar technical leadership role
  • Strong understanding of data center operations, critical infrastructure, and project management principles
  • Experience with project change control processes and methodologies
  • Knowledge of control systems, mechanical, and electrical systems within data center environments
  • Familiarity with firmware modifications, sequence of operations, and topology revisions within active data center environments
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risks and propose effective solutions
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
  • Proven leadership abilities, including the ability to motivate and inspire a team to achieve goals and deliver high-quality results
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities simultaneously

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Project Support team, ensuring efficient and effective execution of the Project Change Control process
  • Oversee the review and approval of Project Change Control requests submitted by data center managers or designated project managers
  • Ensure compliance with the mandatory Data Center Project Change Control process for critical infrastructure equipment adjustments or enhancements within the operational data center context
  • Collaborate with Global Design & Construction to review projects that affect the existing operational data center critical infrastructure and equipment
  • Review and approve Project Change Control requests, ensuring technical content, compliance with Equinix standards, and potential impact to site operation are adequately addressed
  • Conduct technical reviews of projects, focusing on feasibility, operability, maintainability and alignment with organizational policies, design standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Perform risk assessments of proposed Project Changes, identifying potential adverse effects and risks, both technical and operational
  • Evaluate comprehensive testing plans for validating proposed Project Changes, including procedures for potential failure scenarios, while minimizing impact on live operations
  • Coordinate/Provide technical support as required/requested for commissioning of projects at new and existing data centers
  • Provide technical consult, guidance, and support to the regional operations team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment
  • Stay updated with industry trends and best practices related to project change control and data center design and operations
