JOB SUMMARY

The Director, Distribution Construction and Maintenance provides strategic and operational leadership over the construction, operation, and maintenance of the electrical distribution system of Hydro Ottawa. This encompasses both internal and contracted resources. The Director, Distribution Construction and Maintenance is responsible for the effective and efficient direction and overall management of the distribution construction and maintenance function, its policies and procedures and the development of corporate goals, financial and business plans, and strategies to ensure the effective planning and delivery of programs and services to achieve the Corporate mandate.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration or a closely related field (preferred)
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the electrical utility or related industry
  • Progressively responsible management experience, including extensive experience at a senior management level, preferably in the electrical industry.
  • English essential, both oral and written; bilingual, (English/French) considered an asset
    This is a management group opportunity and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direction and leadership to staff in organizing and coordinating the development of a construction and maintenance, operations, and contractor management team that meets customer and corporate needs, optimizing resource utilization, minimizing costs and creating value
  • Provide direction and leadership in promoting a strong culture of safety within the team, prioritizing safety in construction, maintenance and contractor management
  • Ensure adherence to all safety regulations, standards and best practices
  • Execute the annual operational plan and ensure a multi-skilled workforce that maximizes labour productivity, minimizes costs, and protects worker and public safety
  • Lead the development and execution of effective strategic, operational, human resources, and third party contractor plans and budgets
  • Establish multi-year strategies for program execution support through external service providers
  • Working with the Vice President, System Operations and Program Execution, develop, administer and maintain divisional policies and procedures consistent with Corporate and Divisional objectives
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the operations, processes, procedures and practices, and develop recommendations and implement the necessary changes and improvements both at the planning and operational levels
  • Ensure all construction and maintenance of the distribution system is performed according to industry standards and develop strategies to meet and exceed target performance levels
  • Create multi-year capital and maintenance construction programs
  • Direct continuous process improvement initiatives
  • Working with the Vice President, System Operations and Program Execution and other Directors, plan, develop and implement division objectives consistent with the strategic direction, ensuring the appropriate balance between creating shareholder value and the highest level of service at minimum cost
