Description:

Director of Employee & Labour Relations
We are seeking a Director of Employee & Labour Relations to provide strategic leadership in overseeing all employee and labour relations matters within our organization.
Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources, you will work closely with a dedicated team to ensure compliance with legislative requirements, HR policies, and collective agreements. Your role will encompass advising leadership, managing grievances and arbitrations, conducting internal investigations, and leading or overseeing collective bargaining efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice and consultation on employee and labour relations issues to leadership clients.
  • Oversee grievance and arbitration processes.
  • Manage internal investigations and the investigation process.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative requirements, HR policies, and collective agreements.
  • Make decisions regarding third-party (legal) representation and HR’s legal budget.
  • Lead or oversee collective bargaining initiatives with all unions.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate labour relations procedures, guidelines, policies, and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a Master’s degree in a related field.
  • A minimum of 7 years in labour relations or employment law, preferably in the healthcare environment.
  • Expert knowledge of relevant Ontario employment legislation and labour jurisprudence.
  • Proven ability to handle complex negotiations, arbitrations and mediations related to labour and employee relations.
  • Demonstrated experience in collective agreement interpretation, grievance management, and dispute resolution in a complex union environment with multiple unions.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with employees, management, and labor representatives, and to navigate sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to articulate legal concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.

Work model: Hybrid model
Salary: $150,000 - $180,000+ top class pension and benefit
