Job Description:

SUMMARY

The function of this role is to lead the Engineering team in establishing, qualifying and improving processes and procedures through troubleshooting and testing of existing and development of new equipment and tooling. The successful candidate will help develop and implement optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and procedures in accordance with product specifications and quality standards.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / REQUIRED INGREDIENTS:

  • Minimum 10+ years proven experience/track record in building and/or retro-fitting manufacturing plants, installing and moving manufacturing lines and leading sophisticated automation projects
  • Experience designing lines/processes for all electrical; mechanical; conveyor systems; material flow
  • Bachelors or Masters of Industrial Engineering
  • Engineering designation an asset
  • Lean or six sigma training/experience preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel as required
  • Experience reviewing/selecting new technologies (ie; high speed robotic packaging equipment), and other manufacturing technologies
  • Collaborative, inclusive management style
  • Bakery/food manufacturing strongly preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Proven leadership in a high-performing food manufacturing environment
  • Oversee/manage Engineering teams (Electrical; Mechanical: Process/Industrial) for daily operations; equipment installation; moves/adds/changes
  • Develop flexible manufacturing systems and production lines by integrating appropriate machinery
  • Source, test, and implement new equipment, tooling and processes to improve overall efficiency and lower costs
  • Work closely with Continuous Improvement teams; facilities maintenance/infrastructure; production/operations and R&D for the installation of new processes and lines
  • Conduct studies on machine output and implement quality control measures to increase productivity;
  • Insure all equipment meets Pre-Start Health & Safety Review (PSHR) certification requirements
  • Plan and design plant layouts and facilities keeping in mind continuous process flow
  • Have input into training programs for team members for new equipment to reduce machine damage due to operator error
  • Tender, schedule and supervise sub-contractors to ensure work on all equipment and tooling is done in a timely manner without any delays
  • Negotiate and manage SLA’s; purchasing contracts; equipment pricing; equipment designers/integration suppliers
  • Establish and implement routine maintenance programs, schedules and standards on all production equipment and tooling considering machine life span, run time and future production
  • Work well with various departments to ensure production plans are properly supported and implemented; and create, implement and monitor evaluation systems, key performance indicators and metrics.
