ABOUT THE ROLE
The Retail Advice & Solutions (RA&S) Finance team is responsible for providing accurate and timely financial information to enable effective management decision-making, working in partnership with our business partners in RA&S and other Business Units in Canada, including Canadian Finance.
The Director, Expense Management leads the expense management function, including the expense gap process and supporting analysis. This includes overseeing the completion of the monthly/quarterly expense reporting deliverables (including the production of the expense gap calculator), leading the expense planning/forecast process, coordinating the annual budget, providing ad-hoc expense related analysis, and supporting the associated financial analysis. The role is a key contributor in driving expense insights and informing decisions made by the BU Finance Team and the RA&S Leadership Team, and in close collaboration with SLF Canadian Finance.
The Director will also need to proactively engage and work with Finance teams across SLF in order to meet all deliverables.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Responsible for Expense Management functions within RA&S including but not limited to:
- Investigate and effectively communicate expense variances to all levels of management
- Actively seek out expense savings opportunities and presenting action plans
- Attest to the accuracy of reporting and other information produced by ensuring the proper reviews have been completed
- Lead expense & initiative components of strategic/business planning, budgeting, and forecasting
- Ensure all allocations (eg. Insurance vs Wealth, Directly Attributable vs Non Directly Attributable) are appropriate for actual reporting, forecast, business and strategic plan and budget.
- Coordinate the build of the RA&S expense gap calculator for forecast, quarterly reporting, business and strategic plan
- Understand and communicate drivers of expense gap results and the impact to the RA&S business
- Develop and manage trending, analysis and reporting of advisor commissions
- Work with Agile Portfolio Management partners to manage key initiative expenses and portfolio traction, including communication to leadership and cross-functional coordination of business outcomes
- Complete monthly/quarterly Sales Incentive Plan (SIP) reasonability reviews for SLFD and IID and facilitate quarterly SIP accrual estimates. Create ad hoc SIP modelling as necessary
- Present to senior management and BU partners where required
- Manage and lead the RA&S Expense Management team while building strong relationships within and outside of RA&S
