We are seeking a Director, Finance & Accounting with strong internal accounting, cost control and budget management experience within the technology industry, specifically SaaS, to join our fast-growing, 30-person team. As we are an early stage startup, this exciting role will include hands-on accounting activities (we are a Canadian company operating under ASPE (GAAP) standards) as well as strategic financial analysis including engagements with investors and clients. It is anticipated that you will bring the following experience and qualifications to TAP:

  • CPA Designation is required.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced technology company, ideally in a SaaS environment with hands-on accounting and revenue recognition experience.
  • 7+ years of work experience, ideally with management of direct reports
  • Experience with due diligence, financing rounds and/or M&A experience
  • CPA firm audit experience is a plu

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director, Finance & Accounting will be responsible for the preparation of financial statements, and developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. You will play a critical forward-thinking role within the record-to-report process, providing inputs within vital forecasts, analysis and modeling, and helping to strategize for growth at every step by assessing feasibility of ongoing projects and opportunities for future projects.
While working at the office is not required at this point, it is important to get to know other TAP team members and ideally spend some time in the office. Also, as the needs of this role grow and change, some in-office time may be required.

You will play a key role in ensuring the financial foundation of TAP is sound (including strict commitment to compliance, process and clarity of role), and in contributing to our open, collaborative and inclusive environment. The following is an overview of the scope of this exciting role.

  • Lead the finance and accounting function at TAP, including financial analysis, accounting, budgeting, AR/AP, payroll, benefits, ESOP management
  • Oversee all financial reporting requirements, including:
  • Preparing month-end balance sheet schedules and journal entries
  • Monthly revenue recognition and reconciliation per GAAP
  • Reviewing billings and collections
  • G/L management, Month over Month and cash flow analysis
  • SaaS reporting, revenue recognition and financial analysis
  • Financial modeling for internal analysis, funding rounds, and investor due diligence
  • Manage the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) including budget development, budget vs actual expense reporting and analysis, project cost analysis and forward looking forecasting.
  • Oversee tax filings such as PST and GST, and act as point of contact for CRA and other tax agencies.
  • Prepare the financial elements for grant proposals and report or provide financial information to others (such as MITACS, and other government related programs).
  • Execute various financial processes, including the creation and management of data rooms to support financial transactions or audits.
  • Manage the company’s Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SRED) tax credit claims, working closely with internal teams and external advisors to maximize benefits.
  • Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations, providing guidance on the implications for the company’s overall financial position and compliance.
  • Provide departments with metrics, financials and budget related guidance.

Candidate must be based in Canada.
Compensation: $100K - $145K CAD commensurate with experience and education.
