Director, Finance Business Partner
Overview
- Mastercard is a multinational financial services and Innovation organisation whose principal business is to process payments between the banks of merchants and the card issuing banks or credit unions of the purchasers who use the “Mastercard” brand debit and credit cards to make purchases.
- This person will play a key role in supporting the senior business stakeholders & broader finance functions of MA as they relate to forecasting, business case constructs regarding strategic investments & deals, financial reporting, and ad hoc analysis
- The Southern Africa division forms part of the global organisation and includes markets such as South Africa, Mauritius, Zimbabwe and Angola.
- The Finance Business Partner role assumes full responsibility for planning, operating performance, and management reporting for the Southern Africa cluster as well as supporting operations across the Africa Division. The role also partners with the business for development of strategy and plays an integral role in execution as well as tracking of strategy execution plans. This will also include leading of FP&A efforts for the division.
- The role will report to the VP- Division Chief Finance Officer- Africa
- Responsibilities
- Manages all aspects of financial planning and forecasting from a country, product and customer perspective for the clusters and division;
- Development of materials to support ongoing business reviews: Monthly Performance Packages, Operating Reviews, Business Unit Reviews, scorecard updates and dashboard reviews
- Assist the business with business cases pertaining to incremental investment; provide thought leadership to help them achieve their goals for current and outer years
- Provides financial insights to leadership and supports driving and execution of strategy by applying an understanding of key drivers, pricing and products; highlights areas of risks & opportunities and makes recommendations on resolutions
- Manages aspects of month end financial close (revenue recognition, expense) in partnership with the business, the Controllers and Global Business Shared Service teams
- Ensure all Regulatory and Internal Audit items are addressed in a timely manner including finance support for business transformation initiatives
- Embodies the Leading Beyond Finance initiative by running and maintaining business models to analyse performance and business opportunities
- Partners with regions, business units, business partners and/or corporate to assist in developing, analysing and validating new business opportunities and by providing counsel to the business around ongoing deals and Customer Business Agreements [CBA]
- Partners with the businesses in supporting strategic growth plans both near and long term, assisting with business case modelling and providing thought leadership
- Proactively drives and implements continuous process improvement activities and supports in maintaining a strong control environment
- Ensures compliance with ERM policies. May perform control testing
- Supports across the division in execution of all other duties as they become necessary and will deputise as required for the VP- Division Chief Finance Officer- Africa

- The ideal candidate has specialist knowledge in Financial Reporting- Chartered Accountant or CPA.
- Is a fast-paced, highly analytical and detail-oriented individual who demonstrates a sense of urgency, ownership, knowledge and experience with all phases of financial planning, budgeting and forecasting supporting their business partners
- Experienced with financial systems and applications; serves as a resource to those less experienced (e.g., Hyperion, Oracle, excel databases and PowerPoint)
- Has excellent exposure in delivering presentations and engaging with senior leadership
- An independent worker & thinker with the ability to follow up on time sensitive issues
- A team player with the ability to communicate effectively and develop solid working relationships across multiple levels and organizational boundaries is required
- Comfortable with occasional ambiguity but able to make calculated decisions
- Advanced PC, modelling and analytical skills (both quantitative and qualitative)
- Ability to model and perform predictive analytics to review financial and operational analysis and scenarios
- Experience operating in a diverse, multi-functional finance group across time zones
