Can you conceive, prioritize and run effective external & internal communications programs to help deliver one of the industry’s most exciting oncology portfolios?
AstraZeneca is leading a revolution in oncology to redefine cancer care. We are looking for a passionate and experienced Communications Director to support Oncology and lead external senior leader and company thought leadership and communications strategy and execution for key above brand initiatives. You’ll also lead internal communications to excite and engage employees around our bold ambition to eliminate cancer as a cause of death.
In this role, you’ll partner with the broader Oncology Corporate External and Internal Communications team and other corporate affairs colleagues to coordinate relevant reputation-enhancing content for the global editorial calendar, including awareness days and milestones.
You’ll need to be a strategic problem solver, with a talent to develop project plans and implement communications optimally. Expert-level organization and time management skills are key to supporting numerous projects, deliver in a fast-paced environment, coordinate with multiple functions and/or regions and successfully partner with internal clients and leaders.
You will be a core member of the Global Oncology Corporate and Internal Communications team while collaborating with other teams across AstraZeneca, including the Oncology R&D Communications team, Oncology Product Communications team and the AZ Global Internal Communications team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver effective communications programs that elevate AZ Oncology’s reputation as a leader globally
  • Deliver a successful Oncology Leadership Summit – bringing together top AZ Oncology senior leaders for a multi-day working meeting in partnership with senior leaders across the OBU and ORD - and lead Oncology presence at the Senior Leaders Forum
  • Develop and support cross OBU and ORD communications (e.g., Congress pre-cons, Townhalls)
  • Develop and deliver signature programs/initiatives (e.g., Oncology narrative refresh and above brand Oncology campaign) that contribute to enhancing AZ reputation and thought leadership in Oncology to elevate our authority and share of voice in key areas of focus in coordination with other AZ Oncology and ORD programs
  • Maximize AZ Oncology’s corporate non-branded presence at key congresses and leadership forums with compelling content and thought leadership activity that brings our science and corporate narrative in oncology to life.
  • Collaborate with other AZ Communication Leads to ensure integration and alignment with strategic direction, corporate narrative, and internal and external Corporate Affairs campaign and editorial planning processes
  • Drive employee understanding of and engagement with the Oncology strategy, programs, and senior leaders – including an impactful oncology presence at Senior Leader Meetings and robust medical congress internal engagement through creative and authentic internal communications and events that inform, inspire and motivate our people
  • Support, where needed, the development and amplification of our communications activations around key oncology-related awareness days/months
  • Lead and champion use of relevant communication channels - such as Workplace, leadership e-mail, and Nucleus - across the function; ensures adoption across organization and implements measurement strategies in order to drive effectiveness and behavior change
  • Ensure communications are continuous, consistent and distributed through appropriate channels, working with all corporate affairs partners and third-party agencies as required
  • Liaise with senior leaders to ensure seamless execution of high-profile internal engagements
