About the role

The Director of Global Sourcing & Purchasing collaborates closely with all levels of the organization to develop, enhance, and manage the global sourcing functions. In this role, you will spearhead the creation, articulation, and successful implementation of sourcing and purchasing strategies that align with and support the strategic business plan of Spellman High Voltage Electronics (SHVE). This leadership position involves overseeing and coordinating sourcing and purchasing activities across Spellman’s global sites through matrix management. In this pivotal and high-visibility role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and managing a multicultural global team.
  • Serving as a strategic expert on sourcing, effectively communicating concepts and strategies across all organizational levels.
  • Utilizing your expertise to establish structured sourcing and purchasing strategies that enhance global operations.
  • Engaging directly with both internal and external stakeholders to drive significant and sustainable improvements.

What You Will Do

  • Oversee all aspects of Global Sourcing & Purchasing at Spellman, focusing on enhancing customer on-time delivery (OTD), reducing past due orders, and optimizing inventory levels.
  • Drive strategic supplier relationships, including the selection process, negotiating long-term purchasing agreements, and implementing supplier inventory stocking programs. Conduct regular business reviews with all suppliers serving Spellman’s global facilities.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement strategic plans and initiatives that optimize inventory investment, improve inventory turnover, and ensure 100% on-time work order starts.
  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with Business Development Managers, Sales teams, and customers to align operations with market demands.
  • Lead comprehensive business reviews to assess performance against customer demands and company metrics.
  • Analyze changes in sales or customer forecasts to adjust material demands proactively and identify potential risks.
  • Partner with sales teams to extract actionable insights from customer demand data, monitoring significant market and pricing shifts.
  • Work with site and functional teams to develop systems that support customer OTD, maintain inventory balance, and optimize costs.
  • Develop supply plans for key components, sub-assemblies, and finished goods to meet customer demands within operational limits, targeting optimal inventory and cost outcomes.
  • Conduct regular reviews to ensure metrics are utilized effectively in decision-making processes.
  • Evaluate input data against historical trends and strategic goals to refine planning.
  • Document and communicate critical decisions to ensure organizational alignment on supply chain optimization.
  • Proactively identify supply and demand challenges, develop mitigation strategies, and prepare recommendations for senior management review.
  • Integrate customer and market data, inventory plans, and operational capabilities with external supply chain inputs to create an optimized global strategy.
  • Support the development of processes, tools, and policies to achieve strategic objectives and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Identify and implement improvements focused on operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and cost reduction.
  • Lead the implementation of strategies effectively, coordinating with various departments to utilize resources optimally.
  • Adhere to Health, Safety, and Environment policies, ensuring compliance and participation in achieving established objectives and goals.

What You Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or Logistics.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive sourcing experience, including 5 years in a management or leadership capacity.
  • Proven ability to excel within a matrix organization and in collaborative settings.
  • Demonstrated creativity, adaptability, and transparency in dynamic environments.
  • Extensive experience in establishing and scaling a Sourcing & Purchasing function, including strategic planning and managing diverse teams across various commodities and locations.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a track record of effective cross-functional collaboration and senior leadership engagement.
  • In-depth knowledge of vendor and enterprise risk management, with extensive experience in MRP, MPS, and ERP systems.
  • Strong negotiation skills, particularly in significant commercial transactions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of standard contractual terms to minimize legal risks.
  • Analytical and strategic thinker open to innovative approaches to meet evolving business and industry needs.
  • Willingness to travel, including international trips quarterly and domestic travel up to 15%, 25% international travel is expected.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and Power BI.

Preferred Characteristics:

  • Electronics/semi-conductor industry experience
  • APICS certification or equivalent
  • Familiarity with tools such as SiliconExpert, ERP system Glovia, and Kinaxis
  • Master’s degree

This position is based out of either Hauppauge, NY or Brownsville, TX. Relocation is available to either area as desired.
Our good faith estimates of the salary range for this role in
Hauppauge, New York: $170,000 to $190,000
Brownsville, TX: $160,000 to $175,000
Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and other factors. In addition to base pay, we offer a highly competitive benefits package.
